The event starts at 7:00 PM ET on the WWE Network, with the kickoff show beginning at 6:00 PM ET. Here’s a look at the WWE SummerSlam card and a breakdown for some of the matches.
Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor
Bray Wyatt will finally wrestle as his mysterious new character The Fiend, which was introduced on his children’s show, Firefly Funhouse. All the momentum is on Wyatt’s side and fans are anxious to see him wrestle again and get a decisive victory over Finn Balor, helping him appear even more menacing. Balor is expected to take a break from WWE after Sunday and Wyatt makes too much sense.
Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens, like most fans, is tired of Shane McMahon hugging the spotlight and he has become the perfect anti-authority figure to stop him. Expect Drew McIntyre and Elias at ringside or McMahon changing the rules of the match on the fly but Owens has to win as he continues to find his way as a face after always being a heel.
Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya
Becky Lynch is WWE’s biggest star but Natalya will have the crowd on her side and her new mean streak could help her in this submission match. Both superstars are submission specialists and while Lynch has the odds stacked against her once again, she should make Natalya tap out because she still has plenty of worthy opponents for her Raw Women’s Championship and she was recently announced as one of the cover stars for WWE 2K20 alongside Roman Reigns, so she should not drop her belt for now.
WWE Championship: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Randy Orton
This match is years in the making. Kingston has been dominant against all challengers to his WWE Championship but Orton is possibly the best opponent he has ever faced. Orton is very popular and he has done it all in WWE so a loss does not hurt him and Kingston really needs to win so his reign can be truly memorable.
Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins
WWE clearly loves having Brock Lesnar as their Universal Champion and he thrives at SummerSlam after huge wins against The Rock, Triple H and John Cena at this event.
Lesnar has dominated Seth Rollins since their match at WrestleMania and although Rollins is ultra-talented, his character has become stale and this has to be the end of his rivalry with Lesnar. I don’t see Rollins losing, someone like Drew McIntyre or Bobby Lashley has to challenge Lesnar next and Rollins should change his character after Sunday.
Here’s the rest of the card:
United States Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs. Ricochet
SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Ember Moon
Charlotte Flair vs. Trish Stratus
Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler
