Wuhan hosts the biggest tournament of the week on the WTA Tour. Join us and find out who are the main contenders, as well as the highest value tennis picks to place.
Top Half of the Draw
Angelique Kerber returns to competition this week after winning her second Grand Slam career title at the US Open. After losing in the semifinals last year, Kerber is trying to go a step further this year in Wuhan. However, it won’t be easy for the German to present her best tennis after a very demanding season with 70 matches played already in 2016.
Looking now to Angelique’s draw on this event, the new world no.1 won’t have an easy task with very dangerous players on her quarter such as Petra Kvitova, Johanna Konta or Carla Suarez Navarro. Even though we agree that Kerber is the main favorite to win the first quarter and reach the semifinals, it’s hard for us to trust on the German at the time. For those reasons, our suggestion is for you to avoid placing any bet on Angelique’s outright at +400 at Bet365.
After winning only one match on her previous two appearances in Wuhan, Simona Halep is looking for more successful campaign this season. Known as an injury-prone player, it’s never easy for Halep to perform at her best on this Asian swing. Looking now to Simona’s career numbers, the Romanian only won 57.53% of the matches played on Asian soil while her overall winning record is 66.80%. With this in mind, it’s hard to find any value on Halep’s betting odds to win this event at +700 at BetVictor.
Considering now the other players on the top half of the draw, Madison Keys clearly deserves a closer look. Known for her tremendous firepower, Madison can create problems to anyone on the tour with her powerful groundstrokes. Despite her disappointing loss at the US Open 4th round against Caroline Wozniacki, there is clear value on Keys’ price for this event, with Bet365 currently offering +2500 for the American to leave Wuhan with the title.
Bottom Half of the Draw
As we mentioned in previous articles, the last months haven’t been easy for Garbine Muguruza. Since her triumph at the French Open, Muguruza only won 57.14% of the following matches, which is extremely low for a player like her. Adding to this, the pressure is high for Muguruza in Wuhan with 585 points to defeat after reaching the final last year.
Looking now to Garbine’s potential opponents on this event, it won’t be easy for the Spaniard to overcome the first rounds where she might face high quality players such as Jelena Jankovic, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Karolina Pliskova. Due to Muguruza’s poor record in recent months and the terrible draw ahead of her, it’s impossible for us to find any value on her current price at +1000 at Bet365.
After two consecutive losses on the opening round in Wuhan, Agnieszka Radwanska is still looking for her first triumph on this event. Despite those two losses, Agnieszka holds an outstanding career record on Asian soil and for that reason, it’s never a good idea to underestimate the Polish on these competitions.
Even though Radwanska won’t have an easy path with dangerous players on her quarter such as the recent WTA Tokyo champion – Caroline Wozniacki – or the 2015 WTA Wuhan champion – Venus Williams – this seems to be a great opportunity for the world no.4 to capture her first career title in Wuhan. Therefore, our recommendation is for you to add Radwanska to your betting picks at +1000 at Bet365.
