New Haven hosts the last tournament on the WTA Tour before the US Open. Join us and find out who are the main contenders as well as the highest value tennis picks to place on this event.
The three-time winner and defending champion, Petra Kvitova, is once again one of the main favorites to leave New Haven with the title. In a recent interview, Petra said that this is one of her favorite places on the tour due to the relaxed atmosphere, which allows her to produce her best tennis and is one of the main reasons for her tremendous success in recent years.
Looking now to Kvitova’s draw on this event, the Czech shouldn’t experience any problems on her debut against a qualifier.
On the following round, Petra might face the former world no.5 – Eugenie Bouchard – and as it happened in all their previous three encounters, Kvitova should be too strong for the Canadian.
Barbora Zahlavova Strycova is the highest ranked player that Kvitova can face in the quarterfinals, with Petra leading on the h2h by 6 – 1 against her fellow countrywoman. Due to Kvitova’s massive edge on the h2h, we should see the two-time Wimbledon champion booking a place in the semifinals.
Taking a look now to Petra’s potential opponents in the semifinals, the top seed – Agnieszka Radwanska – is the biggest threat on Kvitova’s path. These two players know each other well and even though Agnieszka’s victory earlier this year in Indian Wells, it is Kvitova who leads the h2h by 6 – 4, with the Czech’s last victory over Radwanska taking place last year on this same event.
As we mentioned before, Petra feels at home on this event and due to her massive 16 – 1 record over the last four years, our suggestion is for you to add Kvitova to your betting picks at +350 at Bet365.
It has been a great year for Madison Keys with the American breaking into the top 10 for the first time on her career. Known for her powerful tennis, Keys can overplay anyone on the WTA with her massive groundstrokes yet, she’s also known for her inconsistency, especially when facing against terrific defenders.
Looking now to Madison’s draw on this event, there are several great defenders on her half of the draw, such as Kiki Bertens, Elina Svitolina or Timea Bacsinszky. Adding to these, Keys can also face the talented teenager, Daria Kasatkina, or the 2015 US Open runner-up, Roberta Vinci.
Despite the tough draw ahead of her, Keys is still the undeniable favorite to reach the decisive match yet, it’s very hard for us to trust on Madison to make it into the latest stages of this event, especially with the US Open starting next week. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to avoid placing any bet on Keys on this event, who is currently priced at +350 at Bet365.
Player to keep an eye on
As we mentioned before, Timea Bacsinszky is on the bottom half of the draw where she might face Madison Keys in the semifinals.
Known for her defensive skills, Timea is never an easy opponent to face, with the two-handed backhand as the biggest weapon on her game. Looking now to Timea’s quarter, the Suisse should make it into the semifinals, with Kristina Mladenovic and Roberta Vinci as her biggest threats.
