Caroline Garcia (5) vs. Heather Watson
We picked last year’s WTA Monterrey runner-up, Caroline Garcia, as one of the highest value players to grab the trophy, and the French is just one win away from the decisive match. Caroline loves the faster conditions in Monterrey, where her powerful serve and massive groundstrokes are extremely effective. It wasn’t an easy match at the quarterfinals against her fellow countrywoman, Pauline Parmentier, but Garcia managed to recover from a double break down in the first set to emerge victorious by 7 – 5 6 – 2.

Despite losing the three previous matches on WTA events before this competition, Heather Watson built a good run in Monterrey, losing only one set so far. Heather’s biggest win was achieved at the quarterfinals, when she surprised the former world no.1, Caroline Wozniacki, by 7 – 5 6 – 4. The Danish has been far from her best and her lack of aggressiveness was heavily punished by Watson, with the British overpowering her opponent. Heather’s first serve was also a great weapon – winning 82% with the first serve – still, Watson only placed 53% first serve.

This will be the third official match between them with Heather leading 2 – 0 on h2h; however, Caroline won an unofficial match this year at the Hopman Cup.

This will be a totally different match when compared to the one between Heather and Wozniacki. Watson won’t be able to control the rallies and if she doesn’t raise the first serve placement numbers, she’ll be crushed by Garcia’s powerful return. As we already mentioned, Caroline loves this even and she won’t miss the opportunity of reaching a second consecutive final in Monterrey. Caroline’s firepower should be too much for Watson and for that reason, we advise taking advantage of Garcia’s spread tennis odds by adding it to your tennis picks.
