While some players perform at their best on their home country, Samantha Stosur is far from comfortable on Australian soil. Looking now to Stosur’s numbers, the former world no.4 only won 51.33% of the matches played throughout her career on Australia while her overall record outside her home country is 61.55%. Besides this, Stosur is also in a terrible moment with the 2011 US Open champion losing 11 of her last 12 matches. Sam reaches this event after a heavy defeat against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Sydney by 3 – 6 1 – 6.

After three consecutive defeats in the Australian Open first round, Heather Watson is looking for her first triumph in Melbourne since 2013. Even though this is Heather’s first official tournament of the year, the British already played three matches in the Hopman Cup. Pointed as one of Great Britain’s biggest promises in recent years, the former junior world no.3 failed to match the expectations so far. Despite her lack of success in recent years on this event, Watson is always a dangerous opponent to face.

These two players are no strangers with Stosur winning their two prior meetings – the last one a few months ago in Montreal by 7 – 5 6 – 3.

This match takes place in the Margaret Court Arena – the 2nd biggest court in Melbourne Park. As we mentioned before, playing on Australian soil is far from an advantage for Sam, especially on a big court like this. Despite Stosur’s lead on the h2h, Watson is always a very dangerous player. Fading Stosur in Australia proved to be an extremely valuable investment throughout the years. Therefore, we’ll add Watson to our betting picks as the best play for this contest.

Yanina Wickmayer vs. Lucie Safarova

The last two years have been a roller coaster for Lucie Safarova. After reaching her first Grand Slam final and the WTA Singapore Finals in 2015, Lucie ended 2016 outside the top 60. The Czech couldn’t compete on this event last year due to a bacterial infection, which was also one of the reasons for her lack of success throughout the season. Even though Safarova can play at a very high level, it’s hard for the Czech to maintain that level for a long period of time. Looking now to Lucie’s campaign so far in 2017, the world no.61 was far from impressive with two early defeats in Auckland and Hobart.

Known as one of the most powerful players on the WTA Tour, Yanina Wickmayer is always a dangerous opponent. Playing in Australia brings great memories to the Belgian with Wickmayer reaching the Australian Open 4th round in two different occasions. After losing in the ASB Classic 2nd round, Yanina played two exhibition matches in Kooyong – defeating Qiang Wang and Sorana Cirstea.

This will be the 3rd career meeting between these two players. Safarova won their first encounter three years ago in Indian Wells while Wickmayer emerged victorious last season in Miami.

This should be a very interesting match between two similar players. Both can perform at a very high level but they are also famous for their inconsistency. We expect a very close contest, which makes Wickmayer the valuable player in a match where the sportsbooks consider Safarova the main favorite. With this in mind, our recommendation is for you to take advantage of Yanina’s betting odds by placing a bet on her set handicap.

Free Tennis Pick: Yanina Wickmayer +1.5 Set Handicap (-145)
