Messi and company kick off the day with their R16 match against Switzerland, a great appetizer for the main course which features the United States of America and Belgium. Check out which two picks think hold the most soccer betting value for today.

Argentina vs. Switzerland
Because they finished atop Group F with the maximum nine points (wins over, Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria), the Argentinians were able to avoid France in the first round of the knockout stages and will instead play Switzerland.

It wasn't the most dominant of group stages for Argentina, but Messi was in fine form, scoring four goals to guide his side to the summit.

The superstar will lead out the Argentinians as -175 favorites on the soccer odds board, which is probably a lower number than many were expecting. A Switzerland win is priced at anywhere from +550 to +600.

The Swiss topped both Ecuador (2-1) and Honduras (3-0) on their way to a second-place finish in Group E. They were humbled by France, losing 5-2, but recovered nicely to secure their spot in the bracket.

Personnel wise, Switzerland will be without Mario Gavranovic, who tore his ACL in training. For Argentina, Sergio Aguero (thigh) has already been ruled out, with Ezequiel Lavezzi likely to step in and fill the void.

In preparing to make our recommendation, we just don't see this Swiss outfit having enough firepower to stay competitive with the favorites for the entire 90 minutes. Switzerland has been overly reliant on Xherdan Shaqiri to make things happen in attack, whereas the Argentinians have numerous players who can do damage in front of goal.

As a result, we're adding Argentina to our soccer picks on a straight money-line play, looking for them to avoid extra-time (and possible penalties) by getting the job done in regulation.

Belgium vs. USA
Here we go.

The Americans have done what many didn't think they would do: escape Group G over the likes of Portugal and Ghana. Now they're in the Round of 16, where they'll come up against a very talented young team in Belgium.

When we check over the soccer betting odds, we see the Belgians are favored at a price of +105 or so, leaving USA in a familiar spot as underdogs. They can be backed at approximately +320 right now.

Though the USA beat Ghana and played well against Portugal and Germany, they're still not getting much love from the public when it comes to Tuesday's match. Why? For one, Belgium remains unbeaten and has only allowed one goal in the entire tournament so far.

Then there's all of the Belgians' individual talent, starting of course with the influential Eden Hazard. Thomas Vermaelen (hamstring) may have already been ruled out, but this is a team that has the depth to cope.

The USA will have Jozy Altidore available, though it remains to be seen whether or not he'll start or come off the bench. Altidore hasn't played for close to two weeks, but the Americans could really use his hold-up play against Belgium's strong defensive line.

Either way, the public may be over-valuing the Belgians, but we're not sold on them still. They've looked very suspect at times in this World Cup so far, and the United States is the kind of team that could pose problems with their athleticism, work-rate and togetherness.

Will the Americans pull off the upset? We think they just might, so we'll pick them to advance at the available plus soccer betting odds.

Free World Cup Pick: USA advances (+169)
