Three more matches await us on Thursday, starting with Colombia's clash with Ivory Coast early on. The highlight match, though, has to be between England and Uruguay, with both teams desperate for a victory. Which two picks are we adding to our list today?

Uruguay vs. England
With both teams losing in their opening matches, a loss here would be the crushing blow.

Looking at the soccer betting odds board, England is favored at approximately +105 to get three humungous points in Group D. Uruguay is priced from +250 to +275, with a draw also in that same kind of range.

It was assumed by most that the Uruguayans, even without Luis Suarez on the pitch, would be able to take care of Costa Rica in their first group stage match. Unfortunately for them, that assumption couldn't have been more wrong.

The Costa Ricans came to play and Uruguay was left shell-shocked by a devastating 3-1 loss. Edinson Cavani had put the favorites up early with a converted penalty, but the second half totally belonged to the underdogs. Maxi Pereira's late red card summed up the night for Uruguay – he'll now have to miss this encounter with England.

Roy Hodgson's team didn't play poorly at all in their opening loss to Italy, but they weren't able to earn anything with their hard work and pacey attacking play. They got their goal through a nice move that started with Raheem Sterling, went through Wayne Rooney and was finished by Daniel Sturridge. That would be the end of the scoring exploits, however.

England looked good at times against the Italians but just couldn't find their way through in the second half. And, looking ahead to today's game, we firmly believe the English will fare better against a far less cohesive team in Uruguay.

Suarez is likely to join the starting XI for the desperate Uruguayans, but in the end we're liking England at this plus price. They have the more well-rounded team from top to bottom in our eyes.

Pick: England +105

Japan vs. Greece
Once again we have two teams that both suffered through defeats in their first matches of the 2014 World Cup. Greece and Japan are on the ropes now in Group C, meaning getting a positive result tonight is of the utmost importance.

It's clear who the oddsmakers and general public is favoring tonight. Japan is the favorite at +125, with both a Greece win and draw available at +250.

The Japanese were hard-luck losers in their first match, falling to Ivory Coast 2-1 despite holding a lead until the 64th minute. They had gone ahead through a wonderful goal from their star player, Keisuke Honda, but they couldn't hold strong defensively in the second half, especially once Didier Drogba was brought on.

Will Japan get back on track against Greece? Just judging by the score, you'd think the Greeks were completely out-classed by Colombia, but that wasn't the case. Yes, they couldn't make the most of their chances, but they still created opportunities and didn't look out of their depth whatsoever.

That's why we believe siding with the underdogs could be the way to go with our soccer picks for Thursday. The Greeks have some very technically sound (along with a wealth of experience) throughout the squad, so they're certainly not going to lay down and die.

The benefits of the run-line play? We're able to have a winning ticket even if Greece pull off a draw, which we believe is more than within reason. We think they could very easily win this match outright, so the available value here is appealing to say the least.

We're backing Greece to get at least a point out of this tussle with Japan. Who will make their move in Group C?

Pick: Greece +0.5 (-134)
