Woodbine and Canterbury Thursday Horse Racing Picks and Predictions

Woodbine and Canterbury Thursday Horse Racing Picks and Predictions

Back this week with the same two tracks as last Thursday in Woodbine and Canterbury. The later starts allow you time to review our free picks.

Again, on Thursday, we are looking at six total races from Woodbine and Canterbury. As stated last week, both have later starting times which is advantageous for those studying the horse racing odds and gives you more time to make better decisions.

For horse racing picks, another super week of selections with 23 or more exact or better winners and an additional 16 that paid out winning tickets. Let’s delve into Thursday’s card.

Woodbine Race: 3

Post Time: 4:43 EDT
Surface: All Weather   Distance: 6 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at Heritage: #2 Abbaa

Backstretch News: By talent, this is the best race of the day north of the border. Abbaa gets the call from the oddsmakers and with Beyer Speed Figures in the 90s in two of the last three races, it is hard to find fault with #1. Add in top rider R. Hernandez, who’s been smoldering hot, hard to argue with. O’Kratos has four wins and a show in 10 outings at Woodbine and will be a factor. Next up is Brass Compass, who is 6-1-3 in 10 trips here.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #2 Abbaa 2) #3 O’Kratos 3) #6 Brass Compass

Longshot Pick: #5 Call Me Wally (6-1 odds)

Woodbine Race: 6

Post Time: 6:15 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 1 Mile

Morning Line Favorite at Heritage: #9 First Spring

Backstretch News: When considering all aspects, this race has a more wide-open feel. Favored First Spring lacks qualities to make one feel secure about backing to win and we’ll slide #9 into the three-slot. One step above we will place Jammin Still, who’s posted two victories in four tries here and has a fine jockey in K. Kumera. Heading to the winner’s circle is Kitten’s Boy, who is the speed in this race and has the second-best rider in E. Wilson.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #2 Kitten’s Boy 2) #6 Jammin Still 3) #9 First Spring

Longshot Pick: #3 Now We Are Nine (8-1)

Woodbine Race: 7

Post Time: 6:45 EDT
Surface: All Weather   Distance: 6 ½ Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at Heritage: #7 Piper’s Sky

Backstretch News: This is the featured race at over $100,000. Piper’s Sky is a 5/2 favorite and enters off a top shelf workout. We agree PS should be the pick, but it won’t be our best bet. Chart has shown visible improvement by the numbers (42-58-64) and has Wilson aboard and top trainer M. Casse charting its course. Chart is also off of a superior breeze (workout) and had 6/1 odds. Ann of Cleves is a reliable horse (62-63-65) and at 10/1 might be worth a long look.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #7 Piper’s Sky 2) #4 Chart 3) #3 Ann of Cleves

Longshot Pick: #3 Ann of Cleves (10-1)

Canterbury Park Race: 4

Post Time: 7:00 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 1 Mile

Morning Line Favorite at Heritage: #1 Blazin’ Asian

Backstretch News: The 2/1 fave, Blazin’ Asian, offers several positive attributes. The horse has the two-best last Beyer’s and can run with the lead or off the pace. With a skilled tandem of R. Eikleberry (top rider here) and No. 3 trainer J. Berndt, #1 is who to beat. Yeah Yeah is another Berndt horse, who is 2-1-1 (WPS) in six shots in Minnesota and has the No. 3 jock in D. Velazquez. Last on our betting ticket is Side Street Dave, who delivers consistent efforts.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Blazin’ Asian 2) #2 Yeah Yeah 3) #6 Side Street Dave

Longshot Pick: No real longshot appears possible.

Canterbury Park Race: 6

Post Time: 8:00 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 7 1/2 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at Heritage: #6 Mr. Shook

Backstretch News: We are not shaken by Mr. Shook having the lowest odds at 5/2 and while it’s impossible to ignore 6-2 (WP) record in 11 starts, we’ll fit #6 in our exacta box. Skippy’s Strike is 2-1 in four sojourns at about this distance and is the horse with the finest Beyer’s. 5/1 odds are also appealing about #1. Exprompt is a dramatically better runner on grass, who has won on the surface before. In truth, any horse in this contingent could win.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #1 Skippy’s Strike 2) #2 Exprompt 3) #6 Mr. Shook

Longshot Pick: #3 Antarctic (8-1)

Canterbury Park Race: 8

Post Time: 9:00 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 5 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at Heritage: #5 Hotfoot

Backstretch News: Hotfoot has the Eikleberry and Broberg (trainer) connection and is 4-2-2 (WPS) in 11 opportunities in sprints and is off 84-80 speed numbers. Just Blaze can do just that with seven victories in 16 sprints (four 3rd place finishes also) and No. 2 jockey F. Arrieta will be in the irons. For third, it will be Samurai Mike, who’s cashed three times (2-1 for WP) is a half dozen gallops.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #5 Hotfoot 2) #2 Just Blaze 3) #3 Samurai Mike

Longshot Pick: #1 Great Blake (6-1)

See you back here Friday with more horse racing, Good Luck!
