After a disappointing loss in Wimbledon’s 3rd round against Sam Querrey, Novak Djokovic is trying to regain his dominance on the ATP World Tour. With the Olympic Games around the corner, many top players decided to skip this event which increased even more Djokovic’s chances of winning this tournament. Novak is looking for his 4th career title on this event – his first since 2012 – after losing against Andy Murray last year in the final.
Taking a look to Djokovic’s draw on this event, it’s hard to see the Serbian experiencing any sort of problems until the quarterfinals, where he might face Tomas Berdych. The two know each other well and Novak’s dominance is undeniable, with the Serbian winning 24 of their 26 previous meetings. With this in mind, it’s highly unlikely to see the world no.1 losing this contest against Berdych.
In the semifinals, the highest ranked player that Djokovic might face is Milos Raonic. It has been a great year for Raonic with the Canadian reaching his first Grand Slam final a few weeks ago in Wimbledon, losing only to Andy Murray by 4 – 6 6 – 7 6 – 7. However, Milos is still looking for his first victory over Djokovic after losing all their previous seven encounters and for that reason, we believe that Novak should reach the final of this event for the 5th time on his career.
Even though the price on Djokovic is not very high, we believe that he will leave Toronto with the title and for that reason, our suggestion is for you to add his outright to your betting picks at -161 on BetVictor.
Stan Wawrinka is the highest ranked player on the bottom half of the draw and the 2nd main favorite to lift the trophy. However, this is far from a successful event for Wawrinka, with the two-time Grand Slam champion winning only one match on his last three appearances.
Looking now to Stan’s draw on this event, the Suisse should start his campaign against the experienced Mikhail Youzhny. Even though Mikhail is far from his best, he’s still a very dangerous player and he knows how to create problems to Stan, leading the h2h against the Suisse by 3 – 2.
On the following round Wawrinka might face Jack Sock, a very talented player with a remarkable forehand and if Stan survives this test, he might face world no.6 on the ATP World Tour Race to London – Dominic Thiem – in the quarterfinals. If Wawrinka reaches the semifinals he should face another extremely talented player, Kei Nishikori.
Player to keep an eye on
It has been a great year for Nick Kyrgios and after reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal earlier this year in Miami, Kyrgios is looking for another successful performance on a Masters event.
Kyrgios is on the 3rd quarter of the draw and even though he might face tough opponents like Grigor Dimitrov or Marin Cilic, neither of the two should have the required consistency to defeat the Australian.
In the quarterfinals, Nick might face Nishikori however, the Japanese has struggled with some physical issues and might not present himself at 100% on this event.
Wawrinka is the highest ranked player that Kyrgios can face in the semifinals but as we mentioned before, the Suisse is far from reliable on this event.
Having said that, Kyrgios to win the title at +2500 on BetVictor seems to be a very good opportunity to guarantee some profit if he reaches the final stages of the competition.
