The notorious leader of a deadly drug cartel was sentenced Wednesday and reportedly immediately wisked away to Florence ADX, the prison that houses the worst-of-the-worst in the U.S. prison system.

Now convicted Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison, with an extra 30 years of gravy beyond that.

For more than 30 years, the notorious criminal with the bigger-than-life person sent tons of drugs into the United States and was the cause of dozens of barbarous deaths.

Now as he appeals the conviction, “El Chapo” is likely already serving his time at a U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, Colorado also knowns as ADX Florence, the most secure “Supermax” prison in the United States. It is known as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies.”

According to the New York Post, after sentencing Guzman was escorted to a helicopter and whisked away. “He’s either already arrived in Colorado, or he’s still in route,” the source said.

Where ever he is, it hasn’t shown up yet on the Bureau of Prisons “inmate locator” website.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

El Chapo is already on his way to supermax prison https://t.co/72uyctGnL1 pic.twitter.com/vItdeEP0Dp
— New York Post (@nypost) July 17, 2019
"}[/]

Florence ADX is a good fit for the stuff-made-of legends cartel leader, who has two brazen prison escapes in his past.

Bovada and MyBookie have posted odds on whether the crime boss will escape from prison this year or next. MyBookie also offers bets on how long the drug lord will survive in prison, whether he'll die of natural causes or be killed by a fellow prisoner. Delightful stuff, huh?

Revered as a folk hero akin to Robin Hood in Mexico, celebrated in song and popping up in the Netflix series “Narcos,” Guzman, was painted by federal prosecutors as a man who went from a small-town drug dealer to eventual head of a murderous drug cartel that easily managed multimillion-dollar cocaine transactions. He allegedly earned nearly $15 billion as head of the vast Sinaola cartel, which is reportedly responsible for as many as 70,000 deaths.

Feeding that mystique are Guzman’s two audacious prison breaks:

In 2001, after being given a 20-year prison sentence for drug trafficking and murder, he bribed guards and escaped a maximum-security facility reportedly in a cart of dirty laundry. While on the run, he always seemed to be one step ahead of authorities and reportedly was seen in public frequently, including an alleged dinner at a restaurant in Tamaulipas, where patrons were asked not to use their mobile devices and he picked up the tab for everyone in the restaurant. He was finally captured in 2014 while hiding in tunnels in Mazatlan.

In July 2015, Guzman escaped Altiplano high-security prison by slipping through a hole in the floor of his cell’s shower, traveling through a one-mile tunnel dug by his henchmen. The incident was highly embarrassing for Mexican officials when those digging the tunnel actually missed the target and came up in the wrong cell, course-corrected, and eventually hit their target. Guzman was arrested in early January after a gunfight.

To avoid the slightest chance of an escape attempt, he will likely go to ADX Florence, where inmates deemed the most dangerous are housed.

There have been no escapes from the prison whose highest-profile prisoners are:

Zacarias Moussaoui, an Al-Qaeda operative who played a key role in planning the Sept. 11 attacks

Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, serving a life sentence as the mastermind of the 1992 World Trade Center bombing

Terry Nichols, an accomplice of Timothy McVeigh, in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995

Richard Reid, an Al-Qaeda operative also known as the “Shoe Bomber,” in 2001 attempted to detonate explosive devices in his shoes on a plane from Paris to Miami

Theodore Kaczynski, the Unabomber who mailed explosives in 16 bombing attempts killing 3 people and injuring 23

Dzhokar Tsamaev, participant in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, planting an explosive device at the direction of his brother near the race finish line, killing 3 people and injuring more than 250

Bovada asks:

Will El Chapo Guzmán Escape From Prison In 2019 Or 2020?

No -100000

Yes +2500

MyBookie bets include:

Will El Chapo Escape From Prison?

YES +2000

NO -10000

Will El Chapo Die In Prison By Natural Causes?

YES +250

NO -350

Will El Chapo Die By Prison Shank?

YES +1600

NO -2000

Will El Chapo Write A Book In Prison

YES +160

NO -200

What Year Will El Chapo Die In Prison?

2019-2022 +200

2023-2026 +130

2027-2030 +350

2031-2034 +450

2035-2038 +600

2039 OR MORE +425
