Wednesday FIBA World Cup Picks

Jordan’s FIBA picks record: 4-6

Serbia vs. Italy

In what will likely be one of the better games of the morning, two European teams are set to do battle with both already having punched their tickets into the next round.
Serbia and Italy have both looked dominant in their first two games of the tournament, but that has mostly been due to the lack of competition both have faced so far in this tournament.

Now against one another, the stakes have been raised a bit with who will remaining unbeaten in Group D.

The Serbians are legitimate tournament contenders this season and Italy will quickly find out why in this game. They have the most dominant and deep rotation of big men highlighted by Nikola Jokic and Boban Marjanovic. The Italians are going to have their hands full on the boards and trying to score at the rim.

Jokic has been coming off the bench in the first two games, but he should get plenty of run in this one against a legitimate opponent.

However, where the Serbians have the advantage down low, the Italians boast an advantage in the backcourt.

The steady and experienced hands of Marco Belinelli lead the way for the Italians, and if his swingmen Danilo Gallinari and Daniel Hackett are making shots, this game could be high scoring. However, I think the defenses will tighten down in the second half, but not before an over play cashed in the first half between these two European powerhouses.

My Pick: OVER 79.5 1H @ 5Dimes

China vs. Venezuela

The tournament hosts are back in action on Wednesday and they have a tough game against Venezuela. The Venezuelans have a good team and they showed it by staying in the mix with Poland and beating up on the Ivory Coast in their most recent game.

Therefore, I think they have some veteran advantage over the Chinese in this game, especially when it comes to international competition.

China obviously has the home court advantage however, and they showed it in their first game hanging extremely tough with the Polish.

They jumped out to a 25-15 first quarter lead in that game and I think they can have a similar hot start at home in the first quarter of this one against Venezuela.

China got a ton of baskets at the rim and straight away from deep in that first game and if they can get those shots against Poland, I fully expect them to get some of those same high percentage looks early in their second Group play game.

My Pick: China -1.5 1Q @ 5Dimes
