The final winless team has finally snagged a win. Can the Maulers do it again this week? Find out in our USFL best bets of the week.

We are now past the halfway point of the season, and no one has been able to topple the home team as the Birmingham Stallions remain undefeated. On the flip side, the Pittsburgh Maulers put one in the win column for the first time this season.

The Tampa Bay Bandits start Week 6 off Saturday morning as they take on the Philadelphia Stars in the first of two games that day.

The Week 6 lines are juiced heavily towards the favorites. We’ve seen action tighten up though over the last two weeks, so don’t be afraid to bet on some underdogs this week. One, in particular, really piques our interest.

Here are our best bets for the USFL’s Week 6 slate (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

USFL Week 6 Top Picks

Moneyline: Bandits (-160)

Tampa Bay survived a late game surge from the Panthers last week to hold on for the win. But a 12-play, 87-yard touchdown drive gave the Bandits the lead with 5:44 to go in the game. It was their second come from behind win of the season. So far, their only two losses this season have come to the Breakers and the Stallions. Both of those teams were undefeated when the Bandits played them.

The Stars are missing their opening day starting quarterback Bryan Scott. Backup quarterback Case Cookus hasn’t been bad in relief, but his team looked out of sorts last week against the Stallions. To make matters worse, Philadelphia has received little in the way of production from their running game the last few weeks.

The Bandits had six tackles for a loss last week which means that they can prey on the lack of a Stars rushing threat. Cookus is likely in for a rough day under center.

Spread: Generals -7 (-105)

Whether it was because of matchup or for performance, DeAndre Johnson started and then ended the game at quarterback for New Jersey last week. His team beat New Orleans 27-17, and it marked their fourth win in a row this season and their first by double digits. In fact, all but one of the Generals’ wins have beaten this 7-point spread.

In contrast, the Gamblers have lost their last three games on their opponent’s final drive of the game. Two of them were lost by a single point while the other was exactly this spread and Houston has not lost a game by more than seven points all season long. However, they are facing a team with a surging offense at the peak of its potency in Week 6. The Gamblers are not the best defensive team either, giving up 104 total points since Week 2.

Expect New Jersey to put the pressure on enough to win by enough to cover this spread.

Total: Maulers-Breakers Over 36 (-110)

Pittsburgh’s offense has woken up thanks to their new quarterback Vad Lee. He stepped in last week and led the Maulers to a 21-20 win against Houston. It was his team’s first win of the season and its second game with more than 20 points. Even more remarkable, Lee had only a week of practice before he took the field. Another full week gives him a better shot at repeating this performance.

The Breakers are no stranger to going Over this total. All but one of their five games have hit over 36 total points, including their last two. They have put up more than 20 points in three out of their last five games. The Maulers have surrendered at least 20 points in all but one of their five games.

Upset: Maulers (+270)

Lee came off the bench on Sunday with a week’s worth of practice to help his Maulers win their first game. As if that wasn’t enough, he did so on the last play of the game with a touchdown strike to Bailey Gaither. This may provide the spark that turns the entire season around for Pittsburgh.

They will get a chance to ride that momentum into a game against a Breakers team that has lost two of its last three games. Against New Jersey, New Orleans had trouble with turnovers again en route to a 10-point loss to the Generals. They struggled to contain DeAndre Johnson who threw for 213 and ran for two touchdowns.

Pittsburgh forced two turnovers last week. If they can get pressure on Sloter, they will have the same success and The Maulers will walk away with their second upset in as many weeks.
