As we enter the final week of the 2018 Winter Olympics we have isolated five major events to include in our Olympic picks. Let’s take a look and get to cashing those tickets!
This is the second and final chapter of the Team USA versus Team Slovakia tilt from Thursday night when the United States secured a 2-1 victory over their Group B rival. Although it’s true Slovakia upset the heavily favored Russians 3-2 in their Olympic opener and that same Russian team walloped the United States 4-0 on Saturday night, this game has a different tenor for the Americans. Look for a big bounce-back from Team USA in which their defense will once again suffocate Slovakia and give the Americans a convincing win as they advance to the next stage.
Women’s Ice Hockey: South Korea vs. Sweden (Monday, 10:10 p.m. ET)Free Olympic Pick: Sweden -5½ (+115)Best Line Offered: 5Dimes
If you glanced at the Olympic odds on this matchup between Sweden and South Korea, you might have thought this was basketball and not ice hockey. But indeed this is such a mismatch that Sweden has been harnessed with a 5½ goal disadvantage. In their first encounter, the Swedes breezed to an 8-0 victory and we see a touch of déjà vu in this final meeting. Don’t sweat it; just bet it in your Olympic picks on Monday night.
Men’s Ice Hockey: Norway vs. Slovenia (Tuesday, 2:40 a.m. ET)Free Olympic Pick: Slovenia +120Best Line Offered: 5Dimes
Norway has no wins to its credit, with one overtime loss to Germany and a pair of outright defeats to Sweden and Finland. The Norwegians have a -9 goal differential while their opponents from Slovenia own overtime wins over the United States and Slovakia along with an 8-2 loss to Russia. I believe the oddsmakers have the wrong favorite in this matchup and I intend to take full advantage. I hope you do too!
Women’s Ice Hockey: Switzerland vs. Japan (Tuesday, 2:40 a.m. ET)Free Olympic Pick: Switzerland -1½ (+200)Best Line Offered: 5Dimes
Switzerland is a perfect 3-0 with an Olympic-best +11 goal differential as they take the ice against Japan, whom they defeated 3-1 in earlier action. Let’s not overthink this one as the Swiss are fresh off a 2-1 win over a talented Sweden squad and should repeat their earlier performance against a game, but overmatched, Japanese women’s team.
Men's Short Track Speed Skating: 5000 Meters Relay (Thursday, 6:50 a.m. ET)Free Olympic Pick: China +330Best Line Offered: 5Dimes
South Korea wins men's 5000M relay: -120
Field wins men's 5000M relay gold medal: -120
China wins men's 5000M relay: +330
Field wins men's 5000M relay gold medal: -490
Canada wins men's 5000M relay: +475
Field wins men's 5000M relay gold medal: -825
If you’re not fond of any one of these three teams, 5Dimes is allowing you to bet the field. However, we see serious value on a talented and speedy Chinese relay team, despite what the oddsmakers think about the heavily favored South Korean skaters. When the skating is done, China will be draped in Olympic gold.
