Elina Svitolina (5) vs Serena Williams (8)
Serena Williams produced a near-flawless performance to beat Qiang Wang 6-1, 6-0 and reach the semifinals of the US Open for the 13th time in her career. The 23-time Grand Slam champion won 90.48% of her first-serve points and did not face a single break point during the 44-minute clash. Serena rolled her ankle in the previous round against Petra Martic but didn’t show any signs of injury. The No.8 seed moved extremely well on court while Wang ended the match without hitting a single winner.
Next up for Serena will be No.5 seed Elina Svitolina, who eliminated Johanna Konta 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 39 minutes to advance to the last four at Flushing Meadows for the first time in her career. Known as one of the greatest athletes on the WTA Tour, Svitolina has enjoyed tremendous success at majors this year. Besides reaching the semifinals in New York, the 24-year-old won 10 of her last 11 matches on Grand Slam events.
Williams is the favorite and will have the crowd’s endearing support on this match. The American also leads 4-1 in their head-to-head but Svitolina emerged victorious in their most recent encounter at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Elina is a very tough opponent for powerful hitters and should create some problems to Serena. With this in mind, we’ll add Svitolina’s spread to our parlay as the best play for this contest.
Belinda Bencic (13) vs Bianca Andreescu (15)
Bianca Andreescu’s dream run at the US Open continued on Wednesday after a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Elise Mertens in two hours and two minutes. The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2019 and became the youngest player to reach the semifinals at Flushing Meadows since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009. Adding to this, Andreescu is guaranteed a new career-high ranking next week with an unprecedented appearance in the Top 10.
The Canadian teenager will next take on Belinda Bencic, who took down Donna Vekic in straight-sets to reach her first career Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open. Bencic has played some of her best tennis at Flushing Meadows, dropping just one set so far on this event. On the other hand, Belinda won 88.10% of her service games in New York with an impressive average of 0.36 aces per service game.
Andreescu is the favorite but this won’t be an easy match for the Canadian. Bencic is an outstanding player and as she mentioned earlier this week, her game matches up very well against big hitters. The Swiss should take at least one set and create some problems to Bianca, which makes her +3.5 spread the best line to add to our parlay.
