After several upsets in first round in US Open betting, the main favorites will be extra alert and can't give any margin but as always the underdogs will be looking to make a surprise.

Andreas Haider-Maurer vs. Novak Djokovic
It was a very solid start for Novak Djokovic defeating João Souza 6 – 1 6 – 1 6 – 1, the Brazilian just couldn’t find a way to create problems to Djokovic. The Serbian ended the match with 24 winners, 7 unforced errors, didn’t face a single break point and was able to break his opponent 7 times.

His next opponent will be Andreas Haider-Maurer after his surprising victory over Vasek Pospisil 6 – 4 3 – 6 6 – 7 6 – 0 6 – 1. It was very hard for Pospisil, he struggled with cramps but decided to play to the end, but was very affected physically.

They have played earlier this year in Monte Carlo where Djokovic won 6 – 4 6 – 0 and this time we should have another easy win for the World No. 1. Haider-Maurer has a good first serve, however he can’t get a very high %, in his first match against Pospisil only got 51% and his numbers are usually below the 55%. Nole will be looking for another easy win and the match-up on this match is good for him, had some doubts about how he would perform on this first matches but he did very well and should end this match quickly.

Djokovic spread is -10.5 at -111 and he should be able to cover the tennis odds with at least one set being won by a big margin that should be very helpful for him to cover the spread.

Tennis Pick: Djokovic -10.5 at -111

Rafael Nadal vs. Diego Schwartzman
Rafael Nadal needed to play four sets against Borna Coric in first round, beating the young Croatian 6 – 3 6 – 2 4 – 6 6 – 4. Nadal keeps far from his best, however there was some signs of improvement from the Spanish, he ended the match with 40 winners, 31 unforced errors and was very good to see him going to the net winning 16 of 17 points at the net. His first serve was also a good weapon (especially with slice to open the court on the advantage side) with 72% first serve in and 88% first serve won but his second serve as very attacked winning only 36%.

Diego Schwartzman is a very good baseline player, he can hit his groundstrokes extremely easily and can generate a very high pace. The biggest problem for Diego is that he’s a very short player (170cm) and not only he can’t get very high % of first serve in, but also his first serve is pretty poor. Schwartzman game is all about his baseline intensity, however when he drops the level there isn’t just anything he can do with his tennis and gets very vulnerable because there is no real weapon on the Argentinean game.

The only meeting between them was on clay in 2013 where Nadal defeated Diego 6 – 2 6 – 2. Schwartzman already faced top 10 players 5 times, but only once was on Hard Court at this same US Open 2014 losing to Djokovic 1 – 6 2 – 6 4 – 6. He should be able to put a fight in one set, but will be too hard for him to keep such a high level during all three sets and Nadal will take at least one set with big margin.

Nadal spread is -9.0 at 1.97 and despite his recent form not being the best, his game with Coric was at a very interesting level and against Schwartzman should be able to cover this handicap.

Tennis Pick: Nadal  -9.0 at 1.97

Kiki Bertens vs. Serena Williams
Serena Williams begun at the US Open was pretty strange, she faced Vitalia Diatchenko who started the match already injured and retired when she was down 0 – 6 0 – 2. On next round in her first “real match” on this event she’ll face Kiki Bertens.

Kiki Bertens is more a clay courter, but she did very well this week from qualifying and defeating on first round Mirjana Lucic 3 – 6 6 – 4 6 – 2. Bertens has very good defensive skills and against such an erratic player like Lucic those were determinant for her win.

This is the 7th time Bertens will face a top 10 player, she lost all the previous ones not winning a single set (two of them this year on GS against Bouchard in Australian Open 0 – 6 3 – 6 and against Kvitova in Wimbledon 1 – 6 0 – 6).

Kiki doesn’t have weapons to create problems to the top players and against Serena she should just be crushed by the American. The spread for Serena is -8.0 at +102 and should be an easy match for her covering this handicap.

Tennis Pick: Serena -8.0 at +102

In the first day of second round the three main favorites should be able to win their matches easily covering the spreads.
