Serena Williams (8) vs Petra Martic (22)
Serena Williams continued her bid for a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows on Friday with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Karolina Muchova in one hour and 14 minutes. The six-time US Open champion never looked in danger after dropping a set against Catherine McNally in the previous round. Williams broke serve five times and won 65.38% of the points on Muchova’s second serve to reach the fourth round of the US Open for the 18th time in her career.
Serena will next face Petra Martic on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 28-year-old has enjoyed tremendous success at majors this season, reaching the fourth round or better in all her last three appearances at Grand Slam events. Looking now at Petra’s campaign on this event, the No.22 seed reached this stage of the competition after an impressive straight-sets victory over last year’s US Open semifinalist Anastasija Sevastova.
As usually happens, Serena is the heavy favorite to win at -530 with 5Dimes. The American will have the crowd’s endearing support on her side but it’s impossible to find any value on her tennis betting odds. Martic is an extremely talented player and should create some problems to Serena, which makes her spread a very interesting approach.
Qiang Wang (18) vs Ashleigh Barty (2)
The year just keeps getting better and better for Ashleigh Barty. The Queensland native won her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open and became the first Australian woman in 43 years to reach the top of the singles ranking in June. Barty also extended her good run of form at the US Open this week, defeating Maria Sakkari in straight sets to become the only player to make the second week at every Grand Slam tournament in 2019.
Barty will next take on Qiang Wang for a place in the quarterfinals of the US Open. The world No.18 advanced to the fourth round of a Grand Slam event for the first time in her career after a 7-6(1), 6-3 victory against Fiona Ferro in one hour and 40 minutes. Despite slow start, Wang fought back from a break down early in the first set to beat Ferro for the third time on hard court this year.
This will be the third meeting between these two players. Barty leads 2-0 in their head-to-head with Wang still looking to win a set against the Australian.
The sportsbooks are well aware of Ashleigh’s dominance over this opponent with Barty as the clear favorite at -373 with BetOnline. The world No.2 is a serious contender for the title at Flushing Meadows and is feeling much better on court after a slow start to the US Open series. On the other hand, Wang always struggled against Barty and only won 25% of the matches played throughout her career against Top 10 players. With this in mind, we’ll add Ashleigh’s spread to our parlay as the best line for this match.
Best Parlay: Total Odds (+203) with Pinnacle
- Martic +5.5 spread (-128)
- Barty -4.5 spread (-143)
