Caroline Wozniacki vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova (9)
Unlike we expected on the first round, Svetlana Kuznetsova experienced no problems in her first round match against Francesca Schiavone, dismissing the Italian by 6 – 1 6 – 2. Known for her outstanding forehand, Kuznetsova ended the match against Schiavone with very good numbers with that shot – 14 winners and only 9 unforced errors. With this victory, Svetlana is back to the US Open 2nd round after two consecutive losses in the opening round in 2014 and 2015 against Marina Erakovic and Kristina Mladenovic, respectively.

Even though this is one of Caroline Wozniacki’s favorite tournaments, with a terrific 30 – 9 career record on it, the former world no.1 is far from her best. With only 14 matches won in 2016, Wozniacki is currently outside the top 70, something that didn’t happen since 2007. Caroline reaches this stage of the competition after a very tough match against the wild card, Taylor Townsend, with the Danish emerging victorious by 4 – 6 6 – 3 6 – 4.

This will be the 13th career meeting between these two players, with each of them winning six matches so far.

These two players know each other well, with their first encounter taking place eight years ago. Despite the balance on the h2h, it was Kuznetsova who won four of their last five meetings, including a victory this year in Wimbledon. Even though Wozniacki is far from her best, she’s still a very competitive player and her comeback in the first round is a good example of that. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to add the Over to your betting picks, in a match where Wozniacki should create many problems to Kuznetsova.

Roberta Vinci (7) vs. Christina McHale
After an astonishing performance in 2015, with Roberta Vinci reaching the US Open final, the Italian is looking for another successful journey at the US Open. The fast court conditions in New York clearly suit Vinci’s game style, with the Italian creating many problems to her opponents with her tricky backhand slice and terrific skills at the net. Looking now to Roberta’s first round match, the world no.8 started her campaign with a solid victory against Anna-Lena Friedsam by 6 – 2 6 – 4.

Known as a very good baseline player with the forehand as her best shot, Christina McHale considers the US Open her favorite tournament yet, her best result was reaching the 3rd round in 2011 and 2013. McHale reaches this stage of the competition after an easy first round match against Mona Barthel, a player who is far from her best level. Christina emerges victorious by 6 – 2 6 – 2, in a match where the German only converted 1 of 7 break point chances.

These two players will face each other for the third time in their careers with Vinci leading on the h2h by 2 – 0.

Even though their previous two encounters took place in 2011 and 2013, this seems to be a very good match-up for the Italian. McHale likes to have more time to control the points with her forehand however, Vinci’s tricky lower bouncing slice doesn’t give her that time, with the American struggling to play her tennis. With this in mind, our recommendation is for you to take advantage of Vinci’s betting odds by placing a bet on the 2015 US Open runner-up to win this contest.
