The Premier League season winds down and many markets are going to settle, including Top Goal Scorer. We look at some of the contenders currently trading and still available for your soccer picks.

Premier League Top Goal Scorer
The hunt for the golden boot in domestic action is a highly sought after prize by players. In England’s top-flight, the race is well and truly on between several contenders as the season winds down, of which Spurs’ Harry Kane appears to have the market cornered (See Table 1). But, in a wild, topsy-turvy season featuring the most open title race in recent memory, predicting who will finish top goal scorer is by no means straightforward. There’s all to play for yet and predicting anything ACURATELY is no mean trick.

Table 1: Top Goal Scorer Odds According to Bet365

Realistic Contenders
Obviously, the realistic contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot Prize are held atop the betting market. They include Harry Kane at -200 to win the prize at bet365, followed by the joint tandem of Jamie Vardy (19 goals) and Romelu Lukaku (18 goals), both priced at +450 to win outright. Sergio Aguero and Riyad Mehrez follow with 16 goals each, but their soccer odds couldn’t be further apart as the former is priced at +1000 and the latter at whopping +4000. After these five likely contenders, the soccer odds get a bit ridiculous given their current goal tally and games left on the season, so few that it would be a minor miracle if any were to leapfrog into top spot on the goal scorer list.

Odds makers reckon Harry Kane will win the prize as he’s the current odds on favourite at -200. At the turn of the New Year, Jamie Vardy was leading the race along with Romelu Lukaku both with 15 goals apiece. It’s clear the goals have dried up for the pair as Harry Kane – then with 12 goals – traipsed into top spot by reeling off 9 goals.

The last time an Englishman won the Golden Boot Prize was 1999-2000 when Kevin Phillips clinched it with a 30 goal deposit on the season through 36 games (0.83 rate).

Since then 16 winners have come and gone, none of which were English. Last terms winner was Sergio Aguero with 26 goals through 31 games (0.84 rate). The Argentine national, if fit and healthy down the stretch, could still win the title with a strong finish to the season – keep in mind, Man City do have a game in hand. That said, it’s long overdue for a home-grown player to win the title, and that makes Kane and, even, Jamie Vardy two of the most popular soccer picks amongst fans. The pair represent two of the likeliest title contenders this season and that’s going to provide much-needed incentive as they’re sure to do their part to keep their respective sides – Tottenham and Leicester City – abreast of the chase. For our money, Jamie Vardy strikes the more attractive pose for our soccer picks over Harry Kane on his value soccer odds of +450.
