Damir Ismagulov is better than Moises basically everywhere, bet accordingly!

UFC Shenzhen’s undercard has a hidden gem. Damir Ismagulov is better than Moises basically everywhere!

UFC Shenzhen is featuring many prominent up and coming chinese fighters, but there is one fight that stands out both because it seems odd having no connection to China and because it is incredibly underrated and buried under fights that realistically it should be above. Damir Ismagulov vs Thiago Moises is a clash of rising stars with incredible skill sets who are both destined for greatness and it has flown mostly under the radar.

Damir Ismagulov Stats:

28 years old

74 inch reach

3.27 Significant Strikes Landed Per Minute

1.60 Significant Strikes Absorbed Per Minute

69% Striking defense

2.50 Average Takedowns Landed Per 15 minutes

Damir Ismagulov Notable Facts:

Record: 18 - 2

13 fight win streak

56% Finish Rate

Damir Ismagulov hasn't lost since 2015, let's just start there. Damir has shown excellent range control in his striking and for a tall and long fighter for the division he uses that range very well to his advantage. Some fighters who have length never fully take advantage of their physical gift but Damir is not one of them. He makes excellent use of his reach advantage and lands accurately on his opponents and is able to control that distance so that they cannot hit him back. Ismagulov trains at Tiger Muay Thai, which is one of the best MMA gyms out there are the moment, and he is ever improving on the feet. He makes good use of his leg kicks to slow down his opponents and chop at their legs giving him even more of an advantage later in the fight. He makes good use of feints and has a strong step-in overhand right. While Damir doesn’t have that one hitter quitter kind of knock out power he hits hard enough to get his opponents attention and earn their respect.

After hearing about his stand up game you would think that Ismagulov is a striker, but his greatest strength is actually his ground game. Damir has a suffocating top game once a fight gets to the ground and based on his stats you can see he averages almost a take down per round when he fights. Once the fight is on the ground his wrestling and top game allows him to control his opponents and he grinds them out. Damir also has an endless gas tank which causes his opponents problems. He will continue to grind on you after you've done everything you can and never stops coming. After being worked on for a full 10 minutes his opponents tend to wilt under his pressure because he just doesn't quit.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Damir Ismagulov took Raul Tutarauli's back and finished with GNP R3 at M-1 Challenge 66 (2016) #UFCAdelaide pic.twitter.com/t8qpqtOrLR
— LORD HONKY HUMUNGUS (@Mr_Honky) November 28, 2018
"}[/]

Thiago Moises Stats:

24 years old

70 inch reach

3.20 Significant Strikes Landed Per Minute

2.79 Significant Strikes Absorbed Per Minute

53% Striking defense

1.75 Average Takedowns Landed Per 15 minutes

Thiago Moises Notable Facts:

Record: 12 - 3

1 fight win streak

58% Finish Rate

Thiago Moises is a hot prospect in his own right and he fights out of American Top Team which is possibly the best MMA gym on the planet today. Moises is light on his feet and has excellent footwork and movement. He also controls range very well and knows how to land on the ends of his punches. Unlike Damir, Thiago can CRACK. He has serious power in his hands and this makes him a dual-threat because he can finish the fight from anywhere.

Moises is a black belt in BJJ and has slick and explosive submission attempts. The only issue I have with Moises in this area is that he is too confident in his ground game. He has a tendency to pull guard or jump on guillotine attempts because he is so sure of himself once he is on his back. Even though he is able to protect himself and threaten from his back there is a huge difference between being a sport BJJ blackbelt and being a black belt in MMA BJJ. Moises has a tendency to get stuck on his back and a fighter with the caliber of wrestling that Damir has will be all to happy to stay on top of Thiago and work him for 15 minutes.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Palm strikes-to-Reversal-to Armbar and Thiago Moises gets the impressive win! Right now Damir is a -185 favorite and I think that's accurate. He can use his reach advantage and pick Thiago apart on the feet or he can get on top of Thiago and bank rounds on the judges scorecards staying safe and scoring from the top position. One of Damir’s greatest assets is that he is so defensively sound he doesn't hardly get hit. Damir won't open himself up to giving Moises a chance to finish the fight and with the fight taking place on a neutral location for these two fighters the better man should win. Pick: Damir Ismagulov at -185 with 5Dimes
