Darren Till is the UKs favorite son and at UFC Fight Night 147 he is being given a bounce back fight against the perfect opponent.

Darren Till vs. Jorge Masvidal

Free UFC Pick: Darren Till
Best Line Offered: Pinnacle

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3740865, "sportsbooksIds":[238,93,999996,19,169], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Darren Till is huge at 170 lbs. He Could very easily find a home at 185 due to his sheer size. He is young and improving and the UFC knows that they have a hype train and a potential future star on their hands. He has a glaring weakness, however, and that is his ground game. Tyron Woodley exposed that weakness in Till’s first attempt at UFC gold and put the entire world on notice that Till needs to fix this issue before he can ever hope to challenge for a title. Especially at 170 which is completely dominated by powerful wrestlers like Woodley, Covington, and newly crowned champion Usman.

So when one of your cash cows and future stars fails epicly after running his mouth the way Till did against Woodley what do you do to get him back on track? You find him an opponent who will play straight into his game. The UFC is back in full swing promoting the crap out of Till and stoking the hype fires before a free fight night, which is unusual for them in this “promote yourself” age of the UFC. One of my favorite ways of betting is to figure out the outcome that the UFC is looking for and bet accordingly.

[/]{"component":"video", "type":"youtube", "url":"https://www.youtube.com/embed/-Mz9p45udS8", "videoSize":"Large" }[/]

Till can and will likely move up to 185 lbs at some point in his career. Jorge Masvidal is a natural 155er who has moved up to 170 after a few speed bumps in him career and has found some success. I DO NOT want to downplay the caliber of fighter Masvidal is, because he is an excellent mixed martial artist. I do believe that Masvidal has a ground advantage over Till, but we won't see it. Jorge loves to strike and that is why this is a perfect spot for Till to bounce back.

If Masvidal were to come out and look for the take down he very well might be able to submit Darren Till, but he wont. He has relatively low ring IQ and wants to stand and bang with his opponents to see who drops first. When two similarly skilled fighters go at it size becomes a factor. Till is much bigger and hits much harder than Masvidal and he is very talented on his feet. I don't expect this fight to ever hit the ground unless a fighter is dropped by a punch and I expect these two to stand toe to toe until somebody falls. Bear in mind that this fight is in London, so if it goes to the Judges score cards Till will have the hometown advantage and that may sway the judging if it is a close fight.

I like Till in this spot and while i do believe he will KO Masvidal before round 5 we will play it straight in case he happens to go to a decision. If you want to look for a KO prop when it drops I dont think thats a bad play at all and I also wouldn't mind parlaying Till if you like another favorite on the card. This fight is meant to be a bounce back for Till against a UFC vet who has some name value, but really no future in the sport. Till will put Masvidal name on his resume and get back on track toward another title shot in front of his home country, the UFC will have their rising star back in the public’s eye, and we will pocket the cash.
