Pedro Munhoz vs Aljamain Sterling
Free UFC Pick: Pedro Munhoz
Best Line Offered: Pinnacle +115
Pedro Munhoz is coming off the fight of his life. Munhoz was given a crack at Cody Garbrandt and was supposed to be a showcase fight for the former champion to return to glory, but he spoiled that come back. Munhoz bated Cody into a dog fight and Cody’s chin cracked before his did as they both swug for the fences at the end of the very first round.
Munhoz is more than a brawler though! He is very technical in his boxing and he has a very slick submission game. While Aljo is a decorated grappler, Munhoz will be one of the few fighters at 135 who can match his athleticism and scrambling ability. He will be VERY difficult to hold down should Aljo choose to grapple in their fight, and you’re never safe on the ground against Pedro. He is also VERY good at using leg kicks and chips his opponents away and I fully expect him to use this strategy on Saturday.
Aljo is taller and longer than Munhoz and that will make him a perfect target for leg kicks when he stands at range. When he finally gets sick of having his legs kicked and then comes in to range, I expect Pedro to unload on him with his boxing skills. Aljo is durable and this fight is lined close for a reason, but when either of these fighters need to dig deep for the win, I think that Munhoz is going to have more in the tank. The lone 3 losses on Pedro’s record come to John Dodson via split decision, Jimmy Rivera via split decision, and a unanimous decision loss to Raphael Assuncao back in 2014.
A young Pedro losing to Raphael is a completely understandable loss and the 2 losses to Rivera and Dodson were both split decisions that could very easily have gone his way. This fight is going to be close, but I expect Pedro to have a better shot of stopping Aljo than the other way around and if it goes to the judges we may be in for another split decision and when that happens you want that extra sprinkle of dog money. Let’s ride with Munhoz!
