Just as predicted the money has come in on Gustafsson and now we will fire on Anthony Smith

Just as predicted the line has in fact gotten wider and the line has moved even more in Gustafsson’s favor. Now that Smith can be had for +265 I expect there to be some buy back.

Smith was fully nullified by Jon Jones in his most recent title fight where Gus was KO’d and dominated from bell to bell. I fully expect the motivations to be the deciding factor in this fight and while Gus is an incredibly skilled fighter if he has lost his motivation you cannot trust him at this price. He has had the more high profile fights, but Smith is a dangerous fighter himself.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

Alexander Gustafsson has already had 2 cracks at Jon Jones and Jon put a definitive finish on their last fight silencing any questions regarding how close the two are in skill. Prior to that Gus eared a title fight against then Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and was outclassed over 5 rounds. Unless there is a new 205 pound king Gus will very likely not be seeing another title fight. What tends to happen to top tier fighters in this spot is they slump. They have nothing to fight for. Their legacy is never having reached the top and they know they cannot beat the few fighters above them.

If Gus is mentally compromised in any way Lionheart is the guy to step up and make him pay for it. He’s able to match the height and reach of Alexander and Jones. He is well rounded and a finisher and most importantly he never gives up. When picking a live dog in a fight you always want to have a fighter who you know will not stop going for the win. I think this will be especially so after his disappointing performance against Jon Jones. Jones completely shut down Smith’s game and he had to fight very defensively which is not his style and he was very vocal about having learned valuable lessons in that fight and we know he can do better.

Smith wants another crack at Jones and with one or two impressive wins he will be on the short list of contenders. He has the skills to get in there with anybody at 205 and he will be more hungry than Gus. Gus may have the hometown advantage, but Smith is going to look to erase the memory of his fight against Jones where he felt like he couldn't pull the trigger. I think we will see a pissed off Smith looking to come after Gus and that is when he is most dangerous. Gus will also engage differently than Jones will and I do not expect him to be able to shut down Smith the way Jones did. We have a live dog on our hands! Time to roll the dice on another big dog!
