The Hurricane is Being Counted Out Against Antonio Carlos Jr

Ian Heinisch vs Antonio Carlos Jr

Both Ian Heinisch and Antonio Carlos Jr are coming into their primes and they will face off in the UFC at exactly the right time. ACJ has been around far longer than Ian, but Ian is looking to prove that he belongs in the deep end early. Ian showed up to his last scheduled fight in shape and ready to go against Tom Breese at the UFC’s trip to London on March 16th but his opponent withdrew due to health concerns at the last minute.

Ian looks to push forward with an even more dangerous opponent in his next fight on May 18th in New York against Brazil’s Antonio Carlos Jr. Earlier in his career Antonio showed some striking deficiency and this raised questions about his chin. He has since adapted his style and looks to swarm his opponents and get them to the mat where he has a huge advantage over the majority of fighters. ACJ is currently riding a 5 fight win streak finishing 4 of those 5 by submission.

Ian is called “The Hurricane’ and the name suits him. He’s physically strong with a solid grappling defense game and when he hurts his opponents he swarms on them with power punches. One of Ian’s biggest strengths is not letting his opponents recover once he has them hurt. This is a match up where I see ACJ struggling to get the fight where it needs to be for him to impose his game plan and Ian being able to clip him over the course of 15 minutes enough to get ACJ backed up.

Ian also appears to be bringing in the appropriate people to work on his submission defense and wrestling game. Handling a pressure fighter who is primarily a grappler is no easy task, but the +180 here is disrespecting Ian’s skill set. Over the course of a 15 minute fight he just needs to find ACJ’s chin a few times to turn the tide and put ACJ out. This is a big step up in competition for Ian, but we are getting the right price to roll the dice on him here.
