Volkan Oezdemir vs Illir Latifi

Free UFC Pick: Volkan Oezdemir

At UFC Newark we went 1-1 on pickings. We absolutely CRUSHED Antonina Shevchenko and the breakdown could not have been more perfect, but we dropped the ball on Salim Touahri. This week the UFC is headed to ESPN+ and Uruguay where the younger Shevchenko will defend her belt against Liz Carmouche in an attempt to correct a loss on her record. Unfortunately for us Valentina is a MASSIVE favorite and there isn’t much value to be had in that fight, so we will need to look further down the card. We may circle back later in the week when the props and totals come out for the main event.

Volkan Oezdemir and Illi Latifi have been scheduled to fight twice before, but we both have tried to bet Volkan and sadly both fights have fallen through. The first cancelation is due to Latifi suffering a back injury and the second was due to Visa issues.

Volkan “No Time’ Oezdemir is on a 3 fight skid at the moment, but those 3 losses are to top competition and he is primed for a bounce back. In Jan 2018 he lost to current 205 champion Daniel Cormier unsurprisingly as the list of contenders was short. He took nearly a year off and dropped a fight to Anthony Smith who stormed 205 and shocked everybody with his massive improvements. After that, Volk fought young hot prospect Dominick Reyes and he faded him in that fight, but it was FAR closer than I would have expected. In fact, I think that Volkan actually won the fight, but the split went to Reyes and we got lucky to win some cash.

Latifi is a short and powerful wrestler who has dynamite in both hands and a strong squeeze. He’s basically a little tank. Latifi has been relatively inactive as of late with a BIG KO loss to Ryan Bader in 2016, a win in 2017 against Tyson Pedro, then going 1-1 in 2018 against OSP and Corey Anderson. Latifi has struggled every time he’s taken a step into the deep end of the division and Volk is waiting for him with a massive height and reach advantage. Latifi has struggled lately, but its been in the deep end of 205 and I love fading fighters who are taking a step up in competition. Not to mention Latifi is coming off of a back injust and inactivity he may be compromised facing a man who’s name is “No Time’ because of how quickly he dispatches his opponents. Of Volkan’s 15 wins 11 are by KO for a 73% knock out rate.
