In a rubber match that everyone has waited for the legends of the sport Vitor Belfort and Dan “Hollywood” Henderson will throw down in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday night. Let’s see what the UFC odds makers are offering and cash a ticket.

Vitor Belfort (24-11, 17 KO's, 3 Subs) vs. Dan Henderson (31-13, 15 KO's, 2 Subs)
The only unfortunate aspect of two MMA legends getting together to throw hands…feet, elbows and knees in the middle of the Octagon for a third time is that we will not be seeing the best of either. The two veteran warriors are past their primes and are now firmly settled into middle age with Belfort now 38 and Henderson still active at the remarkable age of 45.

However there was a day when both met in their primes and that was back in ’06 when both plied their violent trade in the Pride organization with Hendo coming up on the winning end of a unanimous decision. They would meet again in 2013 with both men fighting under the banner of the UFC and this time the results were strikingly dissimilar. Belfort avenged his defeat from seven years earlier and did so in frightening fashion. The Phenom caught Henderson with a lightning fast roundhouse to the head and the match was over within two minutes of the fighters touching gloves.

But here we are again for the third and final time. Vitor Belfort has been drinking from the Fountain of Youth because he has looked impressive in winning five (all finishes) of his last seven matches. His two losses occurred in championship bouts to Jon Jones at light-heavyweight and most recently to Chris Weidman in the middleweight category. Certainly losing to two of the best pound-for-pound men on the planet is understandable.

His opponent Dan Henderson has had starkly different results over his last seven fights. Where Belfort is 5-2 Dan Henderson has recorded a 2-5 mark and looked poised to get his ticket punched out of the UFC and into retirement. But a funny thing happened when he met up with Tom Boetsch in June of this year. Twenty-eight seconds into the opening round Henderson scored a stunning knockout and the stage was set for a rubber match with Belfort.

The UFC odds makers in most shops are hanging Belfort as the -350 favorite and with good reason. Vitor Belfort may not be the fighter he once was but at 38 he’s impressively close to his halcyon days when he stopped Randy Couture to win the UFC Light Heavyweight championship. No such case can be made for Henderson. At 45 he is an athletic specimen to be sure but as a viable top UFC contender – no way. He gets all the credit in the world for a devastating right cross that finished a much younger Tim Boetsch. However, Boetsch was on his way out. Henderson just gave him the push he needed to get a real job. This one should be finished by the third round.

Glover Teixeira (23-4, 13 KO's, 7 Subs) vs. Patrick Cummins (8-2, 4 KO's, 2 Subs)
Glover Teixeira gets to fight this battle in his native country and that will be all he needs for any extra impetus to get by Patrick Cummins. Teixeira has fought the elite and is determined to prove he belongs amongst them. His BJJ skills are world class and he should have no problem dealing with the deft grappling of Patrick Cummins.

Though Cummins could very well take this fight to the mat and initially gain control it will be Teixeira who will ultimately prevail. In addition, Teixeira has honed his striking ability to the point that it now takes precedence over his sublime mat mastery. I cannot see Teixeira losing in front of his compatriots in Brazil, which is why I am including him in my UFC picks on Saturday night.
