Mexico City is the venue for UFC Fight Night 98 where the headliner is a lightweight tilt between former champion Rafael Dos Anjos vs. No. 3 ranked Tony Ferguson. Let’s review this and other main event attractions for our UFC picks for Saturday.

Beneil Dariush vs Rashid Magomedov

Division: Lightweight (155 pounds)

The Iranian Dariush has a two-inch reach and one-inch height advantage over his Russian adversary in this match. He is also five years younger and reaching his prime at the age of 27 while winning seven of nine UFC matches. He has also been far more active than Magomedov and his ground game will ultimately win the day. Go with Beneil Dariush +125 at 5Dimes in your UFC picks.

Heather Clark vs Alexa Grasso

Division: Women’s Strawweight (115 pounds)

Grasso is the class here as she is undefeated and recently scored a Fight of the Night bonus in defeating Mizuki Inoue by unanimous decision then followed that in her most recent bout with a Performance of the Night bonus in her unanimous decision victory over Jodie Esquibel. The UFC odds makers understand this, as well as her mediocre 36-year-old opponent who lost her last fight back in May to Karolina Kowalkiewicz via unanimous decision. Lay the lumber and bet the Mexican fighting on her own turf. Alexa Grasso -450 at BetOnline.

 Ricardo Lamas vs Charles Oliveira

Division: Featherweight (145 pounds)

Both men are BJJ black belts and are formidable on the mat. My choice here is the younger (27 vs. 34) Charles Oliveira. The Brazilian fighting out of Houston, Texas with the Macaco Gold Team has a two-inch height and three-inch reach advantage. Where Lamas is more of a ground-and-pounder, Oliveira is more of a mat tactician who can tap out an opponent with greater alacrity than his opponent.

This is the second tier of featherweights behind Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo, Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar. However, Oliveira is young enough to break into that rarified air while Lamas has had his opportunities and has always come up short against the very best. It should be noted however, Lamas has elite wrestling skills that can paralyze even the most proficient mat master if he gains top control.

Yet, Oliveira is the younger, more athletic of the two and needs this win just as badly as Lamas, seeing as both have lost their last two fights. Oliveira will need to make sure he makes weight, being naturally larger than the average featherweight, and can keep pace if the fight goes long. I think he can. Lay the small price and bet Oliveira -115 at Bodog.

Tony Ferguson vs Rafael Dos Anjos

Division: Lightweight (155 pounds)

Tony Ferguson can shut the lights out in a moment’s notice but dos Anjos has gotten better at the striking game. He is far more compact and technical than Ferguson but not as lethal. Ferguson has a huge six-inch reach advantage, which he will exploit over and over again unless dos Anjos gets inside.

This is the moment of truth for the 32-year-old former champ. He has switched camps since his title loss to Eddie Alvarez and he will rely on his grappling to keep Ferguson on his back. But Ferguson has almost double the submissions and is an outstanding grappler in his own right. I don’t see dos Anjos being able to hang with Ferguson when the fight is standing up and his height and reach disadvantage will preclude him from getting the fight to the mat without taking enormous damage. Ferguson +130 at 5Dimes is the sharp play here.
