Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm, while heavyweights Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva will rock the Land of Oz. Let’s see which fighter’s we should include in our UFC 193 picks.

Holly Holm (9-0, 6 KO’s, 0 Subs) vs. Ronda Rousey (12-0, 3 KO’s 9 Subs)
If there is a superlative you haven’t heard to describe Ronda Rousey then you either aren’t listening or don’t know a bantamweight from a paper weight. Rousey has taken the MMA world by storm and is now as mainstream as Justin Bieber. Perhaps the most startling evolution in Rousey’s game is her ability to knock opponents silly with her lethal brand of power punching that was absent in her earlier fights. Known for her world class judo and submission skills Rousey is getting accustomed to standing and trading with whomever wants to go that route. When you think of it what choice do they have? It’s a pick your poison kind of decision with Rousey spectacularly adept at all phases of the mixed martial arts game.

Holly Holm enters this fray with nine victories against no losses since she abandoned professional boxing and committed to MMA. And though she has six KO’s to her credit those knockouts have recently been few and far between as her level of competition has elevated. Three of her last four fights have come via decision (one of them a split decision over Raquel Pennington) as was her last win over Marion Reneau.

The UFC odds reflect the overwhelming sentiment that Rousey is a virtual lock to retain her title. BetOnline.com has the most forgiving UFC odds if you are inclined to bet the rent to make the equivalent of an elegant bottle of Merlot at your favorite fine dining establishment. The only way Holm wins this one is if Rousey resolutely commits to a punching contest to prove she can outbox one of the very best in the sport. If that happens and Holm catches her cleanly (don’t count on it) then maybe, just maybe, she shocks the world and defeats Rousey. Otherwise, not a chance. Holm looks tailor-made for Rousey – but then again who doesn’t?

Antonio Silva (19-7, 14 KO’s, 3 Subs) vs. Mark Hunt (10-10, 7 KO’s, 0 Subs)
This one is a rematch from December of 2013 where the two squared off in a three-round thunder from Down Under. It ended in a majority decision for Silva but it was declared a no contest after Silva tested positive in a post-fight drug test. Silva’s Fight of the Night bonus was also taken away and now the venue has moved from Brisbane to Melbourne as they do it all over again.

Both fighters are well past their primes with Silva rescuing himself from a pink slip out of the UFC with a victory in his last fight, after three losses and a no decision, over Soa Paleiei via a second round TKO. Forty-one year-old Mark Hunt is on the verge of having his ticket punched by Dana White if he fails to compete in this one after securing one win over his last five matches.

This is power versus power with Silva having the upper hand due to a six-inch height and reach advantage as well as being five year’s Hunt’s junior. The Super Samoan can always starch an opponent with one punch but Silva now knows Hunt from their last fight and will be buoyed by his latest victory over Paleiei. Include Silva in your UFC picks but don’t blink because this one could be over before you know it.
