Liverpool is the site of this UEFA Europa League Round of 16 Leg 1 game between host Everton & Dynamo Kiev. Can the +125 favorite Toffees continue their Euro-roll Thursday?

Odds Overview
Everton vs. Dynamo Kiev, Thursday 20:05 (Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports GO, ESPN3 (US); ITV 1 UK, UTV, STV Scotland (UK); 2:05 p.m. ET/11:05 a.m. PT): Everton has been an absolute mess in the English Premier League but fairly impressive so far here in the UEFA Europa League play, and on Thursday at home at Goodison Park in Liverpool, the Toffees will face a fairly stiff test in this Knockout Stage Round of 16 game when Ukrainian Premier League heavyweights Dynamo Kiev head to Jolly Old England for the first meeting between these two sides.

Soccer odds makers have made hosts Everton +120 favorites (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook) with Dynamo Kiev +240 underdogs and the Draw priced at +230 on the popular Three-Way Line. The Total Goals is 2½ Under -137 (Over +100, Boyle Sports), while the Both Teams To Score prop bet lined at Yes -125 and No -110 (Sky Bet) and looks like it could be a very good choice (Yes) in this nervy opening leg.

A couple of other various Props odds: Last Goalscorer: Romelu Lukaku +400, Arouna Koné +600 (Stan James); and, Highest Scoring Half: Second Half +100, Draw +225, First Half +225 (Betfair).

FC Dynamo Kiev
Dynamo Kiev leads the sporting world in different ways to spell its’ name, but the big news out of the Ukrainian camp today (Tuesday) is that star and vice captain Andriy Yarmolenko had his appeal to UEFA upheld and his Suspension lifted so he will be available here to face the Toffees on Thursday. Very big and very good news indeed for for Dynamo Kiev and rookie Head Coach Serhiy Rebrov. The 25-year-old, left-footed winger had received a 3-game ban after receiving a Red Card for an aggressive tackle on Guingamp MF Younousse Sankharé in Dynamo Kiev’s 2-1 loss in Leg 1 in the Round of 32. But Dynamo Kiev does still have two players suspended for this match according to UEFA.com in Serhiy Rybalka and Younès Belhanda. And on top of that, the visitors also have three players (with unspecified injuries) who will all reportedly miss this match in Lukman Haruna, Yevhen Makareno and Yevhen Salin. GK Oleksandr Shovkovskiy (unspecified), MF Serhiy Sydorchuk (unspecified) and striker Jeremain Lens (hip) are all listed as Doubtful, but often the word Doubtful on some injury reports carries little meaning when compared to the understood context and definition in the dictionary. Sports has its deception just like politics and advertising.

Here, Dynamo Kiev will look to Artem Kravets (Anytime Goalscorer +210, bet365), Dieumerci Mbokani (+240), Roman Bezus (+350), and, luckily Yarmolenko for some scoring, and the thought here is that the Ukrainians will be able to score a goal (or two)—a good thing for the BTTS and the Over (2½). And with GK and captain Shovkovskiy, maybe Dynamo Kiev (33/1 to win UEFA Europa League, Spreadex) can actually win its first match on English soil (0-2-7). Maybe.

Everton FC
Everton (11/1 to win UEFA Europa League, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook) are 3-0-1 in its 4 European home games in the Europa League this season—the lone loss a 1-0 setback to FC Krasnodar on the last day of the Group Stage—but the Toffees and Manager Roberto Martínez will really be up against it here in the Round of 16 against this team which will suffer somewhat undoubtedly from playing in the war-torn nation of Ukraine. So, unfortunately any (betting) handicaps of this club in the immediate future have to take into consideration the effects from the current situation, quite simply meaning that FC Dynamo Kiev isn’t as good as it could be if Russian President Vladimir Putin hadn’t invaded Ukraine. Anyway, Everton will look to Romelu Lukaku (+150 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365)—the top scorer among the 16 teams still left in the tournament (since the start of Group Stage) with 6 goals, with 5 of the Dutchman’s tallies coming in the Round of 32 vs. Switzerland’s BSC Young Boys—Koné (+210), Kevin Mirallas (+260), Steve Naismith (+260), Ross Barkley (+333) and Courtney Duffus (+225) for scoring here on Thursday.

Everton also has some players listed as Doubtful with injuries including Leighton Baines (hip), Steven Pienaar (knee), Christian Atsu (illness), Aiden McGeady (knee) and Bryan Oviedo (hamstring).

Best Approaches
There is no history between these two clubs, but this marks Dynamo Kiev’s first Round of 16 appearance since 2010/2011 when the Ukrainians overcame English Premier League side Manchester City, but that was rare as this Dynamo Kiev club has only been victorious in 4 of 22 meetings with English teams and were blanked in its only trip to the city of Liverpool (1-0) to the EPL’s famous Reds. The Toffees only experience with Ukrainian opposition was against FC Metalist Kharkiv in 2007/2008 when Everton advanced over the two legs in the opening round.

As for my free soccer pick, Dynamo Kiev (2-0-2 Road in Europa League) will surely be grateful for the availability of Yarmolenko, but winning this Leg 1 here at Goodison Park sees like a stretch and Toffees GK Tim Howard will battle Shovkovskiy and Dynamo Kiev and should find a way to outscore the visitors with Lukaku, Barkley, Koné, Kevin Mirallas and maybe even old reliable Gareth Barry (+1000) tallying for the homeboys. As discussed, Dynamo Kiev should score in this opening leg—maybe even through Yarmolenko—setting a nervous pace for hosts Everton, knowing that it has to travel to Ukraine next week to play that pivotal Leg 2, which will be held on Thursday, March 19 at NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev, where a partial stadium ban will be implemented after fan invasions against Guingamp earlier.

Predicted Final: Everton 2 Dynamo Kiev 1

UEFA Europa League Free Picks: Over 2½ +100 (Boyle Sports), Both Teams To Score ‘Yes’ -125 (Sky Bet)
