Can We Expect More Spanish Domination to Come in 2016/17 UEFA Champions League Play?
Group Stage play of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League will begin next week (Sept. 13-14) with Matchday 1 so the big question is can anyone stop the Spanish domination in this tournament which has seen a La Liga side win three straight years—Real Madrid in 2016 and 2014 and Barcelona in 2015—and five of the L8 years with either Cristiano Ronaldo and Los Blancos or Lionel Messi and Barca bringing home Europe’s most coveted trophy. And this time around, there will be no Chelsea (12-14-12 in 2015) representing the English Premier League after the Blues finished in 10th place with long-shots Leicester City (23-12-3) not only making history and rattling some British sportsbooks soccer odds, but also qualifying for this prestigious tournament where Jamie Vardy and the Foxes (+137 to win Group G, Bet365) will begin Group Stage play in the very winnable and non-Group of Death Group G alongside FC Porto (+125), Club Brugge (+600) and FC Copenhagen (+800). Leicester City’s first match will be in Belgium against Club Brugge on Sept. 15 at Jan Breydel Stadium in Brugge (BT Sport Extra; Leicester City +145, Club Brugge +185, Draw +215; Total: 2½u -142, Intertops).

The Knockout Phase (Round of 16) in the UEFA Champions League begins on December 12 with the Final scheduled to be played at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff Wales on Saturday, June 3, 2017 and with the L4 winners having either been Barcelona, Real Madrid or German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich (“Will Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid Win the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League?,” Yes Even, No -120, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook), it’s a good bet that two of these three teams meet again in the Final in Wales in early June. Analyzing the Eight 2016/17 UEFA Champions League Group Stage Groups
The toughest of the eight UEFA Champions League Group Stage groups in terms of the top two clubs has to be Group D with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, and FC Rostov, while the most competitive of the groups should be Group E with CSKA Moscow (+600 to win Group E,  Bet365), Bayer Leverkusen (+187, Bet365), AS Monaco (+600, Bet365) and Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur (+164, Bwin). Defending champions, the ideal soccer pick, Real Madrid (6/1 to win Champions League, Intertops) should have a fairly easy time breezing through Group F with Borussia Dortmund (+200 to win Group F, Bet365), Sporting Lisbon (+1200) and Legia Warsaw (+5000) while Spanish rivals Barcelona (-250 to Win Group C, Bet365) and Lionel Messi should also have a fairly easy run through its Group C with Sergio Aguero and Manchester City (+275), Borussia Monchengladbach (+1000) and Scottish side Celtic (+3300).

Group A seems like a foregone conclusion with Paris Saint-Germain (-137 to win Group A,  Bet365) and Petr Cech and Arsenal (+162) likely finishing 1-2 and FC Basel (+800) and Ludogorets Razgrad (+3300) likely knocked out before the Knockout Stage in December. Group B may be a little more competitive than Group A, with Benfica (+187 to win Group B,  Bet365), Napoli (+100), Dinamo Kiev (+650) and Turkish side Besiktas (+700) all fighting to make it to that Final 16 with not really having a legitimate shot of doing much beyond that point. And Group H also looks like the oddsmakers top two clubs going through with GK Gianluigi Buffon and Italian powerhouse Juventus (-175 to Win Group H,  Bet365) and upstart Spanish side Sevilla (-225) probably making it to the Knockout Stage with Lyon (+700) and Dinamo Zagreb (+2500) hopefully enjoying the experience this Fall. This Champions League tournament will probably play out very similarly to the last five.
