UFC Vancouver heavyweights Marcin Tybura and Augusto Sakai go to war.

Record: 23-15

UFC Vancouver features the big boys!

There are 6 fights on the card featuring middleweights or higher and the preliminary card caps off with heavyweights Marcin Tybura and Augusto Sakai.

Marcin is looking to potentially save his job with the UFC with a win and Sakai is looking to break into the upper pack of the heavyweight division.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Shamil Abdurakhimov (20-4) sates his home country, slaying tenth-ranked Marcin Tybura with a second-round onslaught. At 33 years old, it seemed like it was time for him to make his attempt at jumping into the heavyweight division’s deep end and he could not have failed worse in his endeavor.

After TKOing Louis Henrique Da Silva and out-pointing Andre Arlovski, Tybura faced former heavyweight champion Fabricio Wedum and dropped a decision. Then he was fed to the streaking Derrick Lewis and was brutally KOd in the 3rd like Derrick tends to do to everybody.

Tybura bounced back with a win over Stefan Struve, but 2018 Stefan Struve isn't anything to write home about and if you can't beat him you likely don't belong in the UFC. Most recently in April of 2019 Tybura was again TKOd by Shamil Abdurakhimov.

While Marcin has been facing top competition he has fared poorly against them and has taken some serious damage in the process.

Generally, when coming off of a KO or TKO loss you’d like to see a fighter take 9 months or so off to ensure they have completely recovered and Tybura is taking a quick turnaround fight instead against a dangerous new addition.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

With only seconds left in the fight, Augusto Sakai gets the TKO finish. pic.twitter.com/9GDaG4I6lv
— FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) September 23, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

Augusto Sakai (+106) Stats and Facts:

28 years old

77-inch reach

5.35 Significant Strikes Landed Per Minute

3.73 Significant Strikes Absorbed Per Minute

88% Takedown Defense

Record: 13 - 1

Won via TKO on Dana White’s Contender Series

10 of 13 wins by KO

Augusto Sakai is just coming into his prime at 28 years old but already has a ton of experience. Prior to his UFC call, Agusto fought Cheick Kongo in Bellator and managed to go a full 3 rounds with that monster losing a split decision. Augusto only has 2 UFC fights but in those 2 fights he has put up some spectacular numbers.

Augusto is younger than Tybura with far less damage and miles on him, he has a higher output in his UFC career thus far, and if Tybura attempts to take this fight to the mat he has an 88% takedown defense to keep the fight where he wants it.

I think this fight is relatively simply to cap. Tybura’s stock is falling and he may even get cut by the UFC if he drops this fight. Tybura has taken serious damage and recently which would make him even more prone to getting clipped.

At heavyweight, I generally always take the dog because either guy will be able to land and end the night with the amount of power these 265-pound monsters are throwing. Sakai is heading into his best years as a fighter and has all the confidence in the world pushing him with that 13-1 record.

I believe that Sakai will be the more confident fighter and eventually find Tybura’s chin. And I don't know if Tybura can withstand much punishment these days. The big guy is a good dog!

Pick: Augusto Sakai +106 with Pinnacle
