We can try to provide a logical soccer pick or two as league play resumes after an International Break—and a fairly costly one for hosts Manchester City and coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Odds Overview
Manchester City vs. Bournemouth [15:00] (NBC Sports Live Extra (US), Sportsnet World, Sportsnet World Now (CAN); 10 a.m. EDT/7 a.m. EDT): First-place Manchester City (7-0-2, 18 GF-7 GA) welcomes 15th-place and recently promoted side Bournemouth (2-2-4, 10 GF-12 GA) at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Saturday in this Matchday 9 fixture as league play resumes after another International Break. Oddsmakers here have host Manchester City priced as heavy -300 favorites with Bournemouth lined as +650 underdogs and the Draw priced at +450 soccer odds (bet365). The Total Goals here is set at 2½ Under +140 (Over -187, bet365) while the Both Teams To Score Prop wager sees the ‘Yes’ priced at -125 and the ‘No’ lined at -110 (bet365). A couple of other popular Prop wagers for this showdown from Sky Blue Mancunia: Draw No Bet: Manchester City -900, Bournemouth +550 (bet365); and, To Win To Nil: Manchester City +162, Bournemouth +1600 (Sky Bet); and, Winning Margin: Manchester City by 2 goals +333 (bet365).

AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth (1-0-3 Away, 6 GF-9 GA) and 37-year-old Manager Eddie Howe have a had a decent start in the English Premier League, but the Cherries do need to find a way to win on the Road and this club does have some serious Injury problems with record-signee Tyrone Mings (Knee) out for the season and Winger Max Gradel (Knee) also out and expected to be gone for 6 months. Another serious Injury problem for Bournemouth—which scored a prolific 115 goals last season in winning the Championship and earning promotion and usually employs a 4-4-1-1 tactical formation—is the loss of talented Striker and team leader Callum Wilson (5 goals), who also suffered a Knee injury, his in a 2-1 loss to Stoke City at Britannia Stadium last month when he went down under a challenge from the Potters Philipp Wollscheid. Wilson had to leave by stretcher, only to return, only to leave on a stretcher again a little later on the match. So with Wilson, Mings and Gradel out, this team has some of its most dangerous players unavailable for more than  at least the immediate time being. So the Cherries (750/1 to win EPL, Ladbrokes) will be looking to players like Yann Kermorgant (Anytime Goalscorer +430, 888sport), Tokelo Rantie (+500), Matt Ritchie (1 goal, +500), Andrew Surman (+950), Dan Gosling (1 goal), Steve Cook (1 goal), Glenn Murray (1 goal) and Marc Pugh (1 goal, +800) for scoring. Bournemouth GK Artur Boruc (signed from Southampton) and Howe have a number of other versatile new signees like Sylvain Distin (Everton, +1700)—who’s the same age (37) as he is—Christian Atsu (Chelsea loanee, +650), GK Adam Federici (Southampton) and Joshua King (Blackburn, +575). But the huge losses of Wilson, Mings and Gradel will be an issue for this South Coast club and Wilson in particular, and his leadership and scoring, makes backing the Cherries at the betting window a tough proposition both Home and on the Road this Fall.

Manchester City FC
Manchester City (3-0-1 Home, 12 GF-3 GA) also have some serious Injury issues heading in here, thanks to International Play. Star Striker Sergio Agüero (Sprained Ankle, 26 goals last season) hurt himself in his native Argentina’s loss to Ecuador and is reportedly said to be missing a month, while dynamic MF David Silva (Sprained Ankle) hurt himself in Spain’s win over Luxembourg (4-0), so, without the Golden Boot winner. Blech. Sky Blues Manager Manuel Pellegrini can call on backup Striker Wilfried Bony (Anytime Goalscorer +102, 888sport)—who has just 2 Goals in 19 appearances for the Citizens—or teenager Kelechi Iheanacho (+137) to fill in at Striker for Agüero, although speedy new-signee Raheem Sterling (+180) is a possibility. Sterling, or maybe another expensive new-signee, Kevin De Bruyne (VfL Wolfsburg, Chelsea) can also possibly fill in for Silva, but without two of the best players in the league and so many big competitions and matches coming up—including the Manchester Derby (Oct. 25) and UEFA Champions League Group play—you know Sky Blues management is cursing International Play right about now. City also has Injury problems to Captain Vincent Kompany (Calf), Samir Nasri (Hamstring), Gael Clichy (Ankle) and Fabian Delph (Hamstring). But luckily for the Sky Blues, they are at Home here, playing a beat-up side themselves and  have one of the best and deepest Rosters in Europe currently. And players like GK Joe Hart, Nicolás Otamendi, Pablo Zabaleta, Yaya Touré (+260), Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Fernando, Bony, De Bruyne, Sterling or maybe even teen Iheanacho would absolutely love to come through at this point in time for the Citizens (-120 to win EPL, Paddy Power) with superstars Agüero and Silva both out injured to show their own worth.

Series Trends and Best Betting Approaches
These two teams have hardly played at all, with Manchester City holding the slightest 1-1-0 (4 GF-2 GA) edge over Bournemouth in this series with both meetings coming in the Championship league way back in the 1988/89 season when our Auto Insurance premiums were lower. In that season, these two teams played to a 3-3 Draw here at the Etihad on Matchday 10 after the Citizens blanked the Cherries, 1-0 at Dean Court on Matchday 4 earlier that year. Here, look for Sterling and De Bruyne to show why they got the big bucks and why they both could start on almost every other club on the continent outside of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Champions League holders Barcelona, Real Madrid and their city rival Atletico Madrid. And this is the perfect game for (theoretically) for role players like those two and Fernando and Fernandinho and team heartbeat Touré to power through. Despite the key injuries, the hosts should find a way to win this one easily as our soccer pick, and protect that sacred home Etihad soil (12 GF-3 GA).
