Two Ways to Cash Tottenham Hotspur vs. Stoke City Premier League Fixture

If we are measuring ambition, Stoke must be ahead of Tottenham this summer, but will that be reflected on the pitch? William Hill's Lee Phelpsis looking at the odds for his free betting pick.

Two narrow one goal defeats send Tottenham and Stoke into battle against each other, in fact both games featured few chances but some decent soccer. So should we expect the same or the opposite? I think it will be somewhere in between as the visitors look to use counter-attacking soccer to catch a more dynamic Spurs out.

Tottenham Hotspur
Any team that loses its first game, obviously has more pressure going into match day two. Mauricio Pochettino will hope to get off to a winning start at White Hart Lane, but faces a dearth of front men, with Harry Kane the only recognised forward in the squad. Kane is well capable of playing the lone man, but Stoke showed they could marshall Benteke, so I don’t see them panicking with Kane their only threat.

The Argentine manager has an almost fully fit squad going into the clash against the Potters, which shows up the lack of transfer activity in the striking department. They do have quality behind him though and Christian Eriksen will be crucial and maybe even a good shout for a goal at 2.5 (6/4).

Pochettino is fully aware of his side’s lack of firepower: “We have different players that can play like a striker and we have different offensive players that can play in different options. But I think we don't need too much players to bring in."

Stoke City
There wasn’t much in the home defeat to Liverpool and, but for that Couthino cracker, and Mark Hughes faces a tough run of fixtures, where at least a point is essential.

Xherdan Shaqiri’s arrival will set the flashbulbs going this weekend as the club-record makes his debut following his move from Inter Milan earlier this week. Stoke will be without skipper Ryan Shawcross, who is nursing a back injury, but Erik Pieters and Marko Arnautovic should be back for the Potters.

Mark Hughes told the media his squad is one that can consistently get top ten finishes: "We are trying to progress and you can only do that by getting the right quality of players in to enhance what we already have. We are hopeful of a good year and to have someone here of Xherdan's undoubted ability is fantastic. We have strength in depth, shown last year where we had a really good season despite a number of injuries. I think that we will need that again this year and if that gives me a headache over team selection then that can only be a good thing."

Soccer Picks
Like I said at the top, not losing is crucial to both these teams and if this game is a draw after half time, it will be at full time too. Stoke’s tactics on the road and ability to score depend a lot on the attacking ambitions of the home team. I don’t see Tottenham being able or willing to play an open brand of soccer, so it’s low on the goals for this soccer pick. Under 2.5 goals is 1.91 (10/11) and the draw is 3.30 (23/10). I like them both.
