Monday’s Copa America betting cards features group C action where Mexico and Venezuela look to decide top spot. Join us as we preview these matchups for your soccer picks.

Recapping Match Day 2, Group C
Mexico continue to impress in Copa America, following up their opening win over Uruguay with a second straight win over Jamaica. As a result, Mexico are top of Group C with a real shot to win the division in the last lap. Importantly, they improve in outrights betting to +550, putting them second overall after Argentina (+110) and ahead of Brazil (+600).

Venezuela also impress in their Copa America campaign, defying the soccer odds to move into second place but level on points with Mexico. They opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Jamaica and then stunned Uruguay with a 1-0 win on match day 2. They are through to knockouts as a result, but could potentially win the group as well in the last lap if they upset the soccer odds and defeat Mexico. (See Table 1).

Table 1: Group C Standings and Group C Betting Outrights and Tournament Outrights

Team Match Record Points Group C To Win Outrights To Win
Mexico 2-0-0 6 -900 +550
Venezuela 1-1-0 6 +550 +6600
Uruguay 0-0-2 0
Jamaica 0-0-2 0

Jamaica vs. Uruguay
To all intents and purposes, this match is meaningless in the broad spectrum of the competition. Both Jamaica and Uruguay are eliminated thanks to their respective back-to-back losses in the first two rounds. Jamaica were never really expected to make an impact on the competition but Uruguay’s account is exceedingly disappointing given their talent and quality.

With pride on the line, it remains to be seen which of these nations will step up to the plate. Odds makers favour Uruguay, naturally. They are priced at -200 soccer odds to win in 90 minutes or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook. Consider their account thus far – two losses, one goal scored and four conceded – those soccer odds do seem rich for our tastes. In other words, the win looks overpriced.

That doesn’t mean a bet on Jamaica is any more attractive. Although they are priced as the underdogs at +500 to +750 soccer odds to win in 90 minutes and the draw is trading anywhere from +300 to +400 soccer odds, the Reggae Boys are yet to score a goal after conceding three in two games. That does little for their cause to mastermind the upset.

For our money, we’re giving match betting markets a skip here. We’re on the fence really seeing as neither side has much to play for and it’s impossible to predict which nation will get up for this clash. It follows this could be a low-scoring affair as well, prompting us to consider total betting markets for our soccer picks. The Under 2.5 goals is a good bet, available at +124 with Bookmaker.

Mexico vs. Venezuela
Mexico came into Copa America on a rich vein of form and so far they’ve underscored it by reeling off back-to-back wins over Uruguay and Jamaica. In Venezuela they face their last challenge for top spot in the table, one that they should answer convincingly according to the odds makers. Mexico are priced as low as -170 to win in 90 minutes, which is decent value for your soccer picks given how well they are playing.

Of course, Venezuela’s form in the competition is nothing to scoff at and it has played a small part in the soccer betting outlook. In beating Uruguay, Venezuela’s stock improved forthwith. They were seen as one of the competition lightweights until that point in time when they beat a far superior Uruguay on paper. However, Venezuela’s odds to win in 90 minutes are hefty, with prices ranging from +450 to +560 on the Copa America odds board. Even the draw is a far-flung seemingly unattainable +300 soccer bet or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook.

Once again, it’s a far superior team in Mexico they’ll face and, importantly, one that is clearly on good form. Pulling off the upset here is going to be a tough ask, even if they’ll fancy their chances to continue the upset trend. For our money, we can’t look beyond a Mexico win here and at the fair price of -170 we like it on our soccer picks.
