Phoenix Mercury vs Las Vegas Aces

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 – 10:00 PM EDT

After serving a three-game suspension, Brittney Griner is set to make her return to the court, and it couldn’t come at a better time for the Mercury.

Phoenix currently sits near the bottom of the playoff standings right now, and they need to do everything they can to avoid playing in two straight single elimination games.

While they’ll be getting back Diana Taurasi in their next game, that doesn’t help us much tonight, especially against a team like the Aces, who are healthy for the first time in a month.

A’ja Wilson made her return on Sunday and dropped 25 points as the Aces dropped 100 points on the Sky as they clinched a playoff berth.

The Aces could potentially grab that crucial double bye as well, so while they have already clinched a playoff spot, they need to keep winning games like this one if they want a chance to get a free pass to the quarter finals.

However, with that in mind, I think the books are undervaluing the Mercury with Griner back tonight. Griner has looked a little off this season at times. However, it’s probably because she doesn’t take every team seriously and plays a brutal schedule in the winter. After three games worth of rest, that suspension may have actually been good for the Mercury in the long run.

They are in must-win mode the rest of the season and it starts tonight.

Full Disclosure, I grabbed this line super early this morning when it spiked to +11, but there is still value in the Mercury to cover this one. This game should mimic a playoff game, which means plenty of defense and lower scoring, which should hopefully help the Mercury cover as three-possession dogs.

Minnesota Lynx vs LA Sparks

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 – 10:30 PM EDT

Another game I have my eye on tonight are two surging rosters. The Sparks are still without Riquana Williams though, as she serves the final game of her 10-game suspension tonight.

She dropped 25 points on this Lynx team in their last game against one another, and while Candace Parker is healthy for this one, but I still think the Lynx are a point or two undervalued here.

Minnesota is occupying the final playoff spot right now and they should be in desperation mode the rest of the season.

Not only that, but they have already been playing well lately, especially since the return of Seimone Augustus.

The Lynx and Sparks are both averaging 102 points per 100 possessions over their last five games, while allowing about 100. This is a much more evenly matched game than the six points the books are hanging right now, especially if the Lynx come focused and ready to play.

Only three games separate the Lynx in the eighth seed and the Sparks all the way up in fourth right now. With less than a month left in the season, the Lynx probably know this is one of their last best chances to make a significant charge up the standings.

Everyone will be trying to avoid those last two spots so they don’t have to open on the road in a single elimination game. I think that makes both the Mercury and Lynx very tease-worthy tonight as well.

My Pick: Lynx ATS @ Pinnacle
