Camila Giorgi vs. Samantha Stosur (16)
Back in 2011, Samantha Stosur surprised the world after winning her first Grand Slam title at the US Open. That was clearly the highest point on Stosur’s highlight, who also reached another Grand Slam final in 2011 at the French Open. However, Sam is far from the player she used to be, with the Australian struggling to perform at a consistent level. Looking now to Stosur’s performances at the US Open in recent years, only once in the past three years was Stosur able to win more than one match in Flushing Meadows.

Known for her extremely aggressive baseline game, Camila Giorgi is never an easy opponent to face, especially on faster game conditions like the ones in New York. For the third time this year, Camila starts her campaign on a Major against a Grand Slam champion – after facing Serena Williams in Melbourne and Garbine Muguruza in Wimbledon – however, this time her chances are much higher than in the previous two matches.

Both players are known for struggling to maintain a consistent level, which makes this a very unpredictable game. When that happens, playing the underdog is always a good idea, especially when that underdog is Giorgi. The Italian can create many problems to Stosur’s unreliable backhand with her powerful groundstrokes and even though we agree that Stosur should be priced as slight favorite, there seems to be great value on Giorgi’s betting odds. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to take advantage of that by placing a bet on the Italian to win this contest.

Lucie Safarova vs. Daria Gavrilova
After an incredible 2015, with Lucie Safarova breaking into the top 10 for the first time on her career and also reaching her first Grand Slam final, things haven’t been easy for the Czech in 2016. Safarova had to wait until April to win her first match in 2016, with a bacterial infection preventing her from competing during the first two months of the year and clearly taking away all the confidence that Lucie had built in 2015. Known for her inconsistency, Safarova is currently going through a tough moment on her career, with the Czech unable to find her best tennis on pressure points.

Known as one of the most talented players of her generation, the former junior world no.1 and 2010 US Open Junior champion – Daria Gavrilova – is looking for her first victory on this event’s main draw after losing on her debut in 2015 against Darya Kasatkina. It has been a great year for Gavrilova, with the Australian reaching her career high ranking in May as world no.32. Daria arrives in New York after a solid campaign in Cincinnati, losing only in the third round against Simona Halep.

These two players will face each other for the third time in their careers, with each one winning one of their previous encounters.

This should be a very interesting contest, with Safarova’s firepower contrasting with Gavrilova’s terrific defensive skills. Even though we consider Lucie as the player who can produce a higher level of tennis, she’s currently far from her best and for that reason, is hard for us to trust on the Czech to win this contest. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to add the Over to your betting picks, in a match where a third set should be required.
