Join us for US Open Day 5 as we have selected three top plays for the first day of third round where the players from the top half of the draw are on action.

Milos Raonic vs. Feliciano Lopez
Feliciano Lopez was very close from elimination against Mardy Fish, he was down 4 – 5 on 4th set with Fish serving for the match, however the American wasn’t able to close and allowed Feliciano to win in five sets. Lopez said it was a very tough match for him emotionally because to Fish it could be last match of his life and was hard for him to keep focused.

Milos Raonic defeated Fernando Verdasco in a match where he received medical-timeout on his back and was clearly struggling physically. Raonic said he wasn’t sure if should continue or not but decided to play until the end and Verdasco was just too poor mentally not being able to take advantage of his opportunities on 4th set.

Feliciano has always been a tough match-up for Raonic with his left-handed slice serve and his offensive game. The h2h is 3 – 3 with the most recent match being played in Cincinnati where Feliciano won in straight sets.

The value on Lopez is very high for this match, he is always a tough opponent for Raonic and with the Canadian struggling physically the value on the Spanish is even higher.

Elina Svitolina vs. Ekaterina Makarova
Ekaterina Makarova had a great performance last year at the US Open reaching SF in singles and winning the doubles title. Makarova can do very well on Grand Slams, especially those that are played on Hard Court, since 2012 on Australian Open and US Open she has a 29 – 7 record and playing in this tournaments as favorite she won all the 20 matches she played.

Elina Svitolina is a very good competitor with great defensive skills and a huge determination that makes her always a tough opponent to face. Elina did very well recently reaching SF of Cincinnati and this week had a good start winning both her matches in straight sets.

They faced each other two times this year with both matches being played on Hard Court and Makarova emerged victorious twice in straight sets.

Makarova is always a super solid investment on this conditions, as was said she has won all 20 matches she played as favorite on GS played on Hard Court with an impressive 30.4% Yield. This week Makarova started with two impressive wins and we’ll stick with her to win this contest with our tennis picks.

Eugenie Bouchard vs. Dominika Cibulkova
Eugenie Bouchard won two straight matches for the first time since Indian Wells in March, the Canadian defeated Polona Hercog in last round in three sets. Was a match where Genie had chances to win in straight sets, however it got a little tight when she served to close the second set but showed a huge determination to win on the third set.

After a massive upset in first round against Ana Ivanovic, Dominika Cibulkova had a very hard match against Jessica Pegula winning 5 – 7 7 – 5 6 – 3 on a match where Dominika was very poor on her serve facing a total of 19 break points, however Pegula was only able to convert 4 of those chances.

Both players are far from her best but Genie is the one who can perform at a more consistent level at the time. Cibulkova is having big problems to keep her game level and there are periods in the match where she’s just firing errors from everywhere. On the other hand, the main difficulty for Bouchard is mentally to be strong on important points, she has been improving, and this two wins give her a lot of confidence. Bouchard is the one playing better and more solid so we’ll take her to win this contest.
