The season-ending BNP Paribas WTA Tour Finals is set to get underway with Serena Williams leading the charge in tennis betting markets. Is Serena the best tennis pick to win outright?

The Top 3 Faves at the BNP Paribas WTA Tour Finals
The BNP Paribas WTA Tour Finals is set to get underway this week. Serena Williams leads a star-studded cast of eight of the world’s top players in Singapore for a Round Robin tournament to crown a champion.

The American is matched as the hot favourite to win outright, on tempting +150 tennis odds to pull off the feat. Petra Kvitova emerges as the odds makers’ second favourite at +350 while Maria Sharapova rounds out the short odds-on favourites at +400.  The fact that these three have previously won this prestigious tournament, and because we could easily have a final between two of these three players (the competition format allows it to be so) underscores their favourable odds in the face of the competition, which includes newcomers on the scene Eugenie Bouchard and Simona Halep and seasoned veterans Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki and Agnieszka Radwanska. (Alternates waiting in the wings should any of these players prove unable to compete include Angelique Kerber and Ekaterina Makarova).

Here's a preview of the round-robin action and our tennis picks to advance into the knockouts.

Red Group Preview
Serena Williams has been drawn into the Red Group alongside Simona Halep (+1200), Eugenie Bouchard (+1400) and Ana Ivanovic (+1000). Arguably, this is the easiest group of the competition and Serena Williams should be well pleased to be contained within as she’s avoided some of the current in-form players of the WTA Tour. Her chances of advancing unscathed improve with the fitness questions surrounding both Eugenie Bouchard (withdrew from Luxembourg last week with a thigh injury) and Ana Ivanovic (withdrew from her last tournament with a hip injury). Question marks that hang over both players, their ability to compete successfully in this competition and could see the door open for one of the alternatives waiting in the wings.

Serena has won this event two years in a row, and will be attempting to deliver on her +150 tennis odds with a third straight crown, fifth overall. Most tennis bettors will fancy Serena Williams to advance into the knockout stages as the group winner at -175 given her favourable head-to-head record over all three players. Ana Ivanovic looms as the second favourite to win the group at +500, which could be an indication her injury concerns aren’t severe. That said odds makers are splitting hairs between her and the tandem of Eugenie Bouchard (+600) and Simona Halep (+550). It’s clear that the likelihood of any one of these three winning this group in Serena’s stead is slim to none.

Tennis Picks: Serena to win  Red Group at -175, Ivanovic to finish runner-up

Outside Tennis Pick to Spot: Simona Halep

White Group Preview
To all intents and purposes, this is the group of death of the competition with Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Caroline Wozniacki (+1200 to win outright) and Agnieszka Radwanska (+2200) all contained within. Any one of these ladies could potentially win this group, their experience and competitiveness prompts this notion, not least evinced by the tight tennis betting market rolled out for this group with Kvitova listed at +150 to win outright and Sharapova closely following at +175. Wozniacki, who’s enjoying great form since the summer hard court season, looms as the value tennis picks at +400 to win the group outright while Radwanska can never be written off at +650.

Tennis Free Picks: Petra Kvitova to win White Group at +150; Sharapova to finish runner-up
