To Win Outright and To Be Relegated

Those that trade in soccer futures typically turn to one or both of these markets: to win outright and to be relegated. After all, the two are the guiding outcomes of any top flight league. So it’s only right that we begin our weekly Premier League betting analysis with a look ahead.

By looking at the pair of markets for the 2015-2016 Premier League season, before we weight in on the first round of matches slated for the weekend, marking the start of the world’s most watched soccer league, we get a sense of the landscape. A better idea of where to put our soccer picks initially, even. Of course, this doesn’t mean they are all guaranteed to come through. If it were that easy, brokerages would be out of business fast.

Matches aren’t played on paper but on the field. Anything can happen. Favorites can come through according to the soccer odds, or underdogs can play above their heads to serve up the upset either by way of the draw or outright win. Predicting the outcomes is half the fun. Winning owith your picks is the other half, if not the cherry on top.

We’ve collected soccer odds from three main UK Sportsbooks just to give our followers a more comprehensive outlook. See Table 1 and 2.

Table 1: Premier League To Win Outright

Table 2: To Be Relegated

To look at both these markets, a couple of things are clear a) there are only four teams that have a reasonable shot to win the title and b) the relegation battle is sure to heat up between ten clubs, three of which include the newcomers.

To begin with, the Premier League is essentially tipped a four-horse race in pre-season markets with the likeliest title challengers representing household names: Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United. That these are the four teams to finish in the top four last season (in the exact same order) is no coincidence. It’s going to take an out of this world effort by the rest of the field to gate crash this Big Four’s party.

On the other side of the coin, the three promotes lead the relegation battle, while the remaining seven clubs priced under +1000 to be relegated make up the teams to finish in the bottom half of the season last year.

So with the landscape set, let’s get cracking with our match day 1 soccer picks for the entire slate. We’re predicting the outcomes of each of the matches in terms of money line odds (win-draw-loss).

Opening Week Fixture Picks & Predictions

Saturday, August 8, 2015
Manchester United -163 vs. Tottenham +450; Draw +280
Manchester United are home faves at -163 soccer odds over the visiting Spurs on Saturday to kick off their new season on a high note.
With the first match of the season come nerves, which could lead to upsets. Case-and-point Man United’s start last term. The Red Devils are essentially a lot different from last season so it’s going to take time to gel on the field. Question is whether the changing Spurs can take advantage? We’re not ruling it out entirely, but we really like the look of this Man U instalment so we’re backing them on our soccer picks.

Soccer Picks: Man U -163

Bournemouth +100 vs. Aston Villa +275, Draw +240
This is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated matches of opening day with soccer bettors split down the middle. There are those that feel Bournemouth don’t deserve to be the notional favorites against an established Premier League side. That said it’s no secret Tim Sherwood rescued Aston Villa from relegation only just by season end. While Bournemouth won the Championship to earn promotion into the league. The pair met last season in FA Cup where they delivered a close 2-1 win by Aston Villa. Consensus betting suggests the draw is the value soccer pick here at +240.

Soccer Picks: Draw +240

Everton -138 vs. Watford + 350, Draw + 275
Pressure is high on Roberto Martinez to get his lads off the ground and running with a win in their season opener. If only to firmly put behind a disappointing 2014-2015 season. On paper, this is a match they should win. Watford were promoted after a second place finish in Championship and they are on the road. Colour the world shocked if the Toffees slip up here.

Soccer Picks: Everton -138

Leicester –110 vs. Sunderland +300, Draw + 240
Most soccer betting analysts and experts are leaning towards Leicester City in their season opener with Sunderland, a notion that falls in line with the soccer betting outlook across brokerages with Leicester City as the favorites at -110. Not to mention a notion that is all about Leicester City’s strong finish down the stretch last season as well as Sunderland’s trials and tribulations last season. Speaking of which, the orchestrator of City’s run is now gone. Manager Nigel Pearson was let go minutes after the final game of the season and Claudio Ranieri was hired in his stead. While the Black Cats have secured the services of Dick Advocaat and picked up some solid players in the offseason. In the balance of the two coaches and rosters, we’re leaning towards Sunderland. We’re not having it that they are the whopping +300 underdogs.

Soccer Picks: Sunderland +300

Norwich +145 vs. Crystal Palace +190, Draw +220
The way the odds makers cast this match it’s clear they believe that it could go either way. Home advantage has given Norwich just a slight advantage over Crystal Palace as both sides are trading just above Even money. Still, Crystal Palace are a side that finished inside the top half of the table and looks to improve this season. That makes it rather surprising they are the underdogs at +190. Consider Norwich were only just promoted through the playoff process and Alan Pardew led the Eagles to a superb finish, the balance should tip towards the latter surely. Well, the Eagles are our value soccer pick.

Soccer Picks: Crystal Palace +190

Chelsea -300 vs. Swansea +800, Draw +400
Premier League champions host Swansea City at Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho just lost the Community Shield. Think you he’ll suffer another embarrassment lightly? Probably not.

Soccer Picks: Chelsea -300

Sunday, August 9, 2015
Arsenal -400 vs. West Ham +1100, Draw + 450
The Gunners are on cloud 9 after beating Chelsea in Community Shield and picking up their first silverware of the season. Off to a good start they are, it’s hard to imagine they would stumble against West Ham United at the Emirates.

Soccer Picks: Arsenal -400

Newcastle United + 188 vs. Southampton + 150, Draw +220
Southampton appear to be the value soccer pick at +150 soccer odds based on the merit of their last season, in which they finished inside the top ten. They are a well-coached side and very solid on defence, having conceded the second fewest goals (33) in the league last season after Chelsea (32). As it is, Newcastle United will be hard pressed to bank on home advantage. Take Southampton to win outright at +150 at Bet365.

Soccer Picks: Southampton +150

Stoke + 240 vs. Liverpool +110, Draw +240
If there’s one game that could serve up the upset in the first lap around the Premier League, this could be the one. There’s a lot to like about the stoic Potters, who finished ninth in back-to-back seasons. Taking on Liverpool on match day 1 isn’t going to be straightforward as they count amongst the top teams in the league, but Stoke City did decimate them on the final day of the season 6-1 at the Potteries. Who is to say they won’t make it two wins in a row?

Soccer Picks: Stoke City +240

Monday, August 10, 2015
West Brom + 425 vs. Man City -163, Draw +300
Manchester City are the second overall favorites to claim the Premier League title. Predictably, they are the road favorites at -163 to win outright at the Hawthorns on Monday, wrapping up the first round of Premier League action. West Bromwich Albion though have acquired Tony Pulis as their manager, a sound tactician and no-nonsense coach. It’s a long shot as the +425 soccer odds suggest, but worth a tickle in our books simply by virtue of Pulis’ undeniable quality in the dugout. He could have his lads prepared to spring a surprise on Man City.

Soccer Picks: West Brom +425
