The last day of the 4th round takes place this Monday, join us while we analyze the two top plays of the day for US Open Day 8.

Richard Gasquet vs. Tomas Berdych
Tomas Berdych had some problems with the hot conditions in his match against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez but was able to overcome the Spanish 6 – 7 7 – 6 6 – 3 6 – 3. The Czech kept playing very aggressive and despite ending the match with 53 winners / 63 unforced errors was a very good win for Tomas with his powerful game making the difference.

Richard Gasquet has also been far from his best, after two very tough rounds against Thanasi Kokkinakis and Robin Haase but he had a much easier win with Bernard Tomic, but the Australian was just inexistent on that US Open match, not being able to create any problems to the French.

Gasquet plays too passive and against Berdych has many problems to make any damage just waiting for the Czech mistakes. This year they played once on Hard Court where Berdych destroyed Gasquet 6 – 2 6 – 1 and then on Clay where Gasquet was able to put more fight but Tomas won once again 7 – 6 7 – 5. The later this match is played the better for Berdych because the Czech has struggled with the heat and Gasquet will try to extend the rallies and force errors, however if this match is player with less sun there isn’t much the French can do against Berdych. The Czech just overpowers Gasquet from the baseline and even with the sun he should be able to win this, but the highest value on the bet with these tennis odds is clearly if this match is played later so the best is to wait for the Schedule of Play to be released before placing your tennis picks.

Samantha Stosur vs. Flavia Pennetta
Flavia Pennetta hasn’t been playing her top game but has still been able to get the job done like she did in previous round against Petra Cetkovska 1 – 6 6 – 1 6 – 4 where Cetkovska was on fire ending the match with 39 winners / 30 unforced errors. Flavia is a very smart player and she can mix very well her solid baseline game with aggressive groundstrokes, especially the backhand.

Samantha Stosur has her best career result on this event when she won the title in 2011 and after not being able to go further than 2nd round in last two seasons she has done a solid tournament so far. After two straight sets victories, Sam needed to work harder to defeat Sara Errani on previous round 7 – 5 2 – 6 6 – 1 but the Italian has been struggling with health problems and just couldn’t keep the rhythm on third set.

Flavia is a terrible match-up for Stosur and h2h shows that with 6 – 0 for Pennetta with their last match being played this year in Indian Wells where the Italian won 6 – 4 6 – 2. Pennetta main weapon is clearly the backhand and against Stosur becomes even more dangerous with the crossed backhand putting a lot of pressure on Stosur’s weaker backhand and also Sam likes to do the runaround to hit the forehand but that gives just too many space on her right side and Pennetta takes advantage of that with the backhand down the line. The matchup is extremely good for Pennetta and she should be able to extend her winning record over Stosur.
