Only one point separates the Timbers and Whitecaps as they get set to tussle in an MLS showdown this weekend. Let's try and exploit the soccer betting value out there.

Odds Overview
The Timbers are the clear favorites, which isn't surprising at all considering they'll have home-field advantage. They're quoted in the +105 to +115 range to pick up three points, which leaves Vancouver available for backing at a wide-ranging price; some sites, like 5Dimes, have the Whitecaps at +280, while others go as low as +250.

As far as the game's total goes, that number's at 2.5 goals, and the UNDER (-120) is getting more action from the public than the OVER (+100).

Portland Timbers
If only every match was played at home. Though the Timbers have been playing as well as anyone when in Portland, they've struggled to find that same consistency on the road, and that's why the results haven't been consistent at all lately. Heading into the weekend, the Timbers have alternated wins and losses over their last six matches across all competitions.

Most recently, though, Portland suffered a bad 3-0 away loss to the Philadelphia Union. In that 3-0 loss last weekend, the Timbers and Union were all even at 0-0 until 69 minutes in, and Philadelphia then added insult to injury with two more goals to put the match out of reach. It was a rough showing from the Timbers, who had only four total shots on goal.

With an entire week off to stew about that defeat, you know the Timbers are going to come out fired up Saturday back at home, where they've been very hard to beat all season long. Look for Fanendo Adi (a team-leading eight goals) to be the main danger man for Portland.

Vancouver Whitecaps
In a season that continues to feature bumps along the way, the Whitecaps have followed up a three-match winning streak by losing successive matches ahead of this weekend's trip to Portland. Vancouver, however, is still right at the top of the Western Conference, though they're sharing that spot with the Seattle Sounders.

This Saturday the Whitecaps will do battle with the fourth-seeded Timbers, but they'll have to pick up a positive result away from home. Vacouver has actually managed to win three out of its last four matches away from home, but traveling and playing in Portland is an another level. It's not going to be easy at all to go there and get even a draw.

The Whitecaps will give it all they've got though, and they do have some talent for the Timbers to be wary of. Octavio Rivero has scored seven league goals already and the likes of Kekuta Manneh, Pedro Morales and Darren Mattocks have all had their influential moments too.

MLS Pick
We like the home team in this spot. The Timbers' crowd always brings it no matter the occasion, and they should be getting rowdy for this one against a familiar foe in Vancouver.

Neither team's recent overall form has blown us away, but Portland has been protecting its home turf with gusto all season long, and that's what we expect to carry the hosts in this battle with a Whitecaps squad that's dropped two matches in a row. The Timbers haven't lost at home since April 12th and have picked up five victories and one draw in that six-match span. They know how to grind out results in front of their own fans and that's a big factor that we can't overlook.

So, we're going to be putting our faith in Portland to keep playing well at home, and it helps that they're facing off against Vancouver, who has been faltering of late. Back the Timbers with your soccer picks on Saturday.
