We all know there's no love lost when the Timbers and Sounders meet up on the pitch.

Odds Overview
It's looking like Soccer odds makers are putting their faith in the Timbers to protect their home turf this weekend. At almost every top sportsbook, namely 5Dimes, we see Portland favored at -115 to win.

It's not very often you get the chance to back the Sounders at such a big underdog valuation, but you can do so on Sunday. They've been priced out at right around +330, while a draw is in the +225 to +240 range.

Portland Timbers
The Timbers had won five straight matches heading into a battle with the Galaxy in Los Angeles this past Wednesday, but boy did they run into a buzzsaw. Portland was completely dominated from start to finish in an embarrassing 5-0 loss, and it was easily the team's worst performance of the season so far.

The loss kept the Timbers in fourth place in the Western Conference, though they're just four points back of first place and still have two matches in hand on some of the teams ahead of them. What's more, now they return home, where they've been picking up positive results on a consistent basis. Portland has won three straight on their own pitch, overcoming DC United (1-0), New England (2-0) and Houston (2-0). As you can see, defensively is where the Timbers have shone, but they're putting together outstanding all-around efforts here of late.

Going forward, Fanendo Adi has been the main target man for Portland, scoring a team-leading six goals in 17 appearances. Maxi Urruti has scored three times, while Gaston Fernandez and Nat Borchers have a couple goals to their name. As we talked about though, it's been at the back where the Timbers have been best.

Seattle Sounders
A factor into why the Sounders are such heavy underdogs? The two-game suspension handed to star striker Clint Dempsey surely has something to do with it, as Seattle could very well struggle to fashion a lot of scoring chances (and find the back of the net) without their most clinical finisher out there.

However, there are a couple other major parts of the equation here. Firstly, the Sounders have really not been playing well lately, having lost three consecutive matches across all competitions. They fell to San Jose and Philadelphia in league play and then lost to this same Portland side in the U.S. Open Cup, in the match that Dempsey received the red card and subsequent suspension.

Then there's, of course, the fact Seattle will be away from home and playing against a rival. Needless to say, this is far from an optimal situation for a Sounders outfit that has been performing poorly and is now without its best player.

MLS Pick
We're inclined to agree with the linesmakers here in that we think the Timbers are the right side when finalizing our MLS soccer picks for Sunday.

It looks like Seattle simply has too much working against them in this spot. The Sounders were already going through a rough spell, and then they were hit with the Dempsey suspension news. Yes, Seattle still has a lot of talent even without their striker in the mix, but the Timbers will be at home and have been the much more in-form side (that loss to the Galaxy aside) in recent weeks.

So, we're going to be backing Portland at these very reasonable soccer betting odds this weekend. They haven't lost at home since the second week of April, a span that includes four matches, and we look for that streak to be extended against their biggest rivals.

Predicted Final Score: Portland Timbers 2 Seattle Sounders 0

MLS Soccer Pick: Portland -120 at bet365
