Jordan’s WNBA Picks 0-2
Phoenix has been quickly regaining form this season and are looking like one of the more dangerous teams in the league. They face off against the bottom-feeding Dallas Wings on Thursday, and while they won’t have their star guard, Diana Taurasi back for Thursday, word on the street is that the WNBA legend is targeting Sunday’s home game for her return.
However, the Mercury don’t need Taurasi to beat the Wings. After trading Liz Cambage right before the season started, the Wings have become one of the league’s worst offensive teams. Dallas is averaging just 90.7 points per 100 possessions in their first six games and they are also allowing 100 points per 100 possessions.
That won’t get it done against one of the league’s better teams. Without Cambage, the Wings will struggle to slow down Brittany Griner down low and the Wings have no one that can slow down DeWanna Bonner (almost no WNBA team does).
However, with the spread pretty high, I think a first half wager is the way to go in this one. Despite being at home, the Wings have been horrific on offense early in their home games so far. They are averaging just 74.8 points per 100 possessions in their three home first halves, while the Mercury own the league’s best first half defensive rating on the road at 87.7 through four road games.
I’m also leaning toward the first half under as well, but I think the better wager in the early odds stage is to lay the first half points with Phoenix.
My Pick: Mercury 1H ATS

While the first game on this slate could likely turn into a blowout, the late game between the Mystics and Aces should be anything but. The Mystics are coming off a 29-point win over the Sparks on Tuesday and with the amount of offensive firepower on their side, they could upset the Aces on the road.
However, the duo of Cambage and A’ja Wilson have proven tough to stop so far. Elena Delle-Donne will have to guard one of them, but LaToya Sanders and Emma Meesseman may struggle trying to defend whomever Delle-Donne does not guard.
That will lead to lots of points for Vegas, especially considering they are playing at one of the faster paces of any team in the W right now.
This is also a big game for standings purposes. The winner will move into sole possession of the third seed and one step away from a double bye.
That being said, this could get into a defensive battle early despite the hefty pace that the Aces play at. Las Vegas is holding opponents to a first half defensive rating of 74.5 when they play at the MGM Grand Arena and Washington has the third-best road defensive rating in the first half at 92.7.
Between two good playoff teams, I see scoring coming in lower to start the game, so take advantage of this large total and bet the under in the first half.
