Golfing great, Jack Nicklaus is the course designer, founder and host of this PGA Tour event since 1976 and unsurprisingly, with that knowledge, the course is set up to find precision ball strikers like the great man himself. The player’s journey takes him through undulating parkland to bentgrass/ poa annua greens. Last year, the course hosted back to back events due to the pandemic with the Workday tournament winning score being ten shots lower than the traditional Memorial Tournament that was set up uncharacteristically harder than normal, the week after.

I suspect this year’s set-up, the winning score is likely to be somewhere in the middle, maybe twelve under or better. Impossible not to notice Patrick Cantlay looking back close to his best form at Kiawah Island

In recent years no one has played Muirfield Village better than Patrick Cantlay, winning in 2019 with a storming last round of 64 to nick the title. It came as no surprise given, he was 4th in 2018 and a rich vein of form at the time. That’s why when I saw his name on the higher echelons of the PGA Championship leaderboard the Sunday before last, it caught my attention.

His final finishing position of 23rd can be ignored, given he triple-bogeyed the par 3 17th otherwise a par would have left him in tied 4th. Hopefully, that has helped us get a good price on the twenty-nine-year-old from Long Beach, California this week. Unusually, that performance snapped a baron run of form for Cantlay, who had missed his previous three cuts which is seriously out of character for the World number 15 and we have to go back to 2013 for the last time Cantlay went three events without making a cut.

If that unusual run of poor form, doesn’t sharpen up his focus, then nothing will, and it was only three months ago he was runner up in the American Express. I think Patrick Cantlay brings a strong look to proceedings at this week’s Memorial Tournament and I expect him to be challenging for a second win at Muirfield Village on Sunday so take Bovada price on the win and top 10 market.

Can Kyoung-Hoon Lee Quickly Follow up His Byron Nelson Win at Jack’s Place?

2021 has seen Kyoung-Hoon Lee find his mojo with a first tournament victory at the Byron Nelson three weeks ago having been runner up at the Phoenix Open a couple of months prior. The South Korean has been plying his trade for several seasons on the PGA Tour but they are his two most outstanding results in a short space of time having previously struggled to put four good rounds together. A solid ball-striker, Kyoung Hoon Lee should be perfectly suited to Muirfield Village demands and there is a little tenuous evidence to suggest this is the case.

With his last two events at Muirfield Village resulting in top 40 finishes when not in his current superb form, it warrants a look, then on further inspection in 2019, Lee was set for a good result heading into the final round at the Memorial Tournament but a disastrous final round of 79 saw him plummet down the leaderboard.

Like Cantlay, he is twenty-nine years old but his rise to the top has been a slower one, though there is little doubt that currently, few are playing better than the South Korean Kyoung Hoon Lee. I like the look of BetOnline win price of +15000 and a solid looking match bet with the same company. BetOnline have paired him against Charles Howell who is yet to manage a top 20 finish at Muirfield Village in nearly twenty years.
