The Florida swing of the PGA Tour continues this week and unusually, on the PGA Tour, the professionals encounter a par 70 course with only two par 5s.

PGA National – Champions Course

March 18th to 20th, 2021 – Palm Beach, Florida

Par 70 – 7140 yards

The Honda Classic was founded nearly fifty years ago in 1972. The event has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour with the PGA National used since 2007 and always setting a stern test with the winning score never better than twelve under par.

The course sets a challenging exam for the players set in parkland with numerous water hazards and often subject to windy conditions. Set on Bermuda Grass with the greens Tiff Eagle Bermuda, a strong short game is a prerequisite with GIR often an important stat.

Brendan Steele Looks Reliable

Last week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass will have left many exhausted mentally or worse broken, and some played an ultra-tough Arnold Palmer Invitational the week previous. That’s a big ask for all players and especially those who have been in contention both week’s so this week, ideally, we need players who have a little freshness and one of those is the thirty-seven year old, Californian, Brendan Steele.

Steele has been rejuvenated in 2020 and 2021 after a couple of seasons when he admits to losing motivation. At the start of 2020 and 2021, he came close to landing the Sony Open in Hawaii on both occasions and he did figure prominently here last year when eventually finishing 4th to Sungjae Im. 18th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, two weeks ago, followed by a solid off the pace week at the Players Championship will hopefully mean Steele has a little freshness still in his locker for this week.

From previous years we know that Brendan Steele has a strong plethora of form at PGA National and that strong affinity and experience can only be a plus this week. The top 20 market is the one to concentrate on with Steele this week having accumulated four top 20 finishes in the last five years so lock in the price of +300 with BetOnline. There is also a nice match bet available against former champion Russell Henley at +113.

Can Adam Long Win His Second PGA Tour Title at the Honda Classic?

Yes, I like the look of Adam Long’s chances after a strong solid week at the Players Championship. This year has been underwhelming so far for the thirty-three-year-old from New Orleans but last week’s Players Championship offers bettors encouragement given it was only his second cut made in 2021 and bucked a trend of four successive missed cuts.

Winner of the Desert Classic of 2019 when a rookie on the PGA Tour has since gone on to consolidate his playing privileges and build a world ranking of 67. This week’s Bermuda Greens are the ones that many of his best results have often been achieved on and last season he showed promise at the PGA National when a poor third round of 74 cost him a podium finish. This year’s event is of equal quality and a similar showing will see him contending for the win and a top 10 place. With that look, for our golf pick, I suggest you look to take the win price of +8000 and top 10 prices of +700 at BetOnline.
