Many upsets in first rounds with all four top seeds already out of the competition. Find out what is our top tennis pick for WTA Wuhan quartefinals.

Roberta Vinci (15) vs Karolina Pliskova (8)
After being runner up at US Open, Roberta Vinci keep her good momentum and is already in Wuhan quarterfinals. Vinci has the best backhand slice on tour and is using that stroke wonderfully not giving any rhythm to her opponents like she did against defending champion Petra Kvitova.

The biggest improvement from Roberta in last weeks has been the service, the Italian was holding an average of 64.1% of service games in last twelve months but since US Open those numbers raised to 73.1% (this week has even been more impressive with 76.5% in the three matches she played). Vinci has also been much stronger under pressure on her service games, she was saving only 56.7% of break points in last year however since her run at New York she’s saving 69.9% (and once again if we just look at her stats at Wuhan they get even more impressive with Vinci saving 73.3% of break points).

Karolina Pliskova has been struggling in last months after an outstanding start of season. The Czech won 28 of her first 36 matches in 2015 but hasn’t been able to keep the same consistent level.

This week she was already very close from elimination in first round against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni with Lucic serving for the match on third set but unable to close it. After that another tough win over Elina Svitolina where the Czech needed to comeback from one set down after losing the first 2-6.

They played once on Clay Indoor at Katowice where Vinci just destroyed Pliskova 6-1 6-0 however the Czech was still improving and at that time was outside top 50. Currently Karolina is a top 15 player and also she’s much more dangerous on Hard Court than on Clay but she’s not playing her best tennis while Vinci extremely confident.

Vinci used her tricky game to explore Kvitova’s inconsistency and should do the same here against another Czech player. Pliskova hasn’t been unable to keep a solid level and Roberta will take advantage of that to take the win. Our advice is to take Vinci's tennis odds and we'll add her to our tennis picks.

Tennis Pick: Roberta Vinci -2.5 (-104) at Pinnacle
