David Ferrer (11) vs. Tomas Berdych (7)
After struggling to find his best tennis on this clay court season, the 2013 French Open runner-up – David Ferrer – showed up at a very good level in Paris. Ferrer reaches this stage of the competition after losing only one set in the 2nd round against Juan Monaco. On the previous round, David played a superb match against a very tricky opponent, Feliciano Lopez, defeating his fellow countryman by 6 – 4 7 – 6 6 – 1 in a match where Ferrer made 35 winners / 12 unforced errors.

It hasn’t been an easy clay court season for Tomas Berdych, after a surprising loss in Rome against David Goffin by 0 – 6 0 – 6, the Czech fired his coach Dani Vallverdu. Despite arriving in Paris with low levels of confidence, Berdych is already in the 4th round after a remarkable victory on the previous stage against Pablo Cuevas by 4 – 6 6 – 3 6 – 2 7 – 5. Pablo’s high bouncing shots where perfect for Tomas to attack with his groundstrokes, ending the match with 49 winners / 34 unforced errors.

This will be the 15th career meeting between these two players, with Ferrer leading on h2h by 8 – 6.

These two players faced each other recently in Madrid, with Berdych winning that contest by 7 – 6 7 – 5. However, not only was Ferrer returning from injury but that match was also played in altitude conditions, which benefits Berdych’s powerful tennis. The next weeks are expected to be rainy, which makes the court heavier and the game conditions slower. Ferrer is the one that clearly benefits from the conditions now and with the Spaniard playing so well, our suggestion is for you to add him to your tennis picks to win this contest.

David Goffin (12) vs Ernest Gulbis
David Goffin returns to the 4th round of the French Open, with his previous appearance in 2012 when he lost in four sets against Roger Federer. After winning his first two matches in straight sets against Gregoire Barrere and Carlos Berlocq, Goffin needed five sets to overcome Nicolas Almagro on the previous round. David is an extraordinary shot maker, always playing at a very high pace and not giving many time to his opponents. Goffin is known for his terrific returning skills and on this event he won 40.0% of the games played on his opponent’s serve.

We picked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to cover his spread on the previous round against Ernest Gulbis; however, the French was forced to retire when leading by 5 – 2 in the first set due to a right groin injury. Gulbis can produce a very high level of tennis with the backhand as his best shot, but he’s also known for struggling to maintain a consistent game level with the forehand as his most unreliable shot.

These two players will face each other for the third time on their careers, with Gulbis winning the first match in Acapulco 2014 by 6 – 1 3 – 6 7 – 6, while Goffin emerged victorious last year in Madrid by 3 – 6 6 – 1 7 – 5.

This should be a very interesting match with Goffin playing at a very high pace and exploring Gulbis unreliable forehand. The conditions will be slower than usual because of the rain, which will make things very hard for Gulbis to win free points on serve. Having said that, we recommend you to take advantage of Goffin’s tennis odds by placing a bet on the Belgian to cover his spread.
