The WTA Tour comes to an end this week with the WTA Elite Trophy taking place. Find out who are the main contenders as well as the highest value players to get your betting picks ready.
After an exciting week in Singapore, the WTA comes to an end this week. Zhuhai hosts the last tournament of the year with the best players who couldn’t make into the WTA Finals in action. Instead of having two groups with four players, this event contains four groups with three players each with only the first placed moving to the semifinals.
Azalea Group – Johanna Konta, Samantha Stosur, and Caroline Garcia
Camellia Group – Carla Suarez Navarro, Timea Bacsinszky, and Shuai Zhang
Peony Group – Petra Kvitova, Roberta Vinci, and Barbora Strycova
Rose Group – Elina Svitolina, Elena Vesnina, and Kiki Bertens
After an outstanding 13 – 3 record since the US Open, Petra Kvitova is without any doubts the main favorite to lift the trophy in Zhuhai. This is Kvitova’s first career appearance in this event since she usually qualifies for Singapore. However, the two-time Wimbledon champion couldn’t secure a place in the WTA Finals for the first time since 2011.
Looking now to Petra’s group in Zhuhai, the Czech won’t have an easy task against Barbora Strycova and Roberta Vinci, two players famous for their tricky game style. Nevertheless, we expect to see Kvitova booking a place into the WTA Zhuhai’s semifinals.
The 2015 semifinalist – Elina Svitolina – is looking for another successful campaign in Zhuhai. After an incredible year, Svitolina is very close from breaking into the top 10 for the first time in her career. Even though Elina is the main favorite to win the Rose Group, it’s hard for us to trust her due to her negative h2h against Elena Vesnina and Kiki Bertens dangerous tennis. Besides this, Svitolina lost all her last five meetings against Kvitova, including three this year already. With this in mind, we advise you to avoid placing any bet on Svitolina to win this competition at +600 at Bet365.
Johanna Konta was very close from securing a place in Singapore for the first time in her career. However, Svetlana Kuznetsova’s triumph in Moscow two weeks ago ended Konta’s chances of playing the WTA Finals. Johanna is the highest ranked player in Zhuhai and also the main favorite to win the Azalea Group. Taking a look now to her opponents, Samantha Stosur and Caroline Garcia are famous for their powerful tennis. However, neither of the two should present the required consistency to defeat the British.
Kvitova and Konta are the undeniable favorites and we expect to see one of them leaving Zhuhai with the title. Petra is our main choice yet, our suggestion is for you to split your stake between these two players' betting odds. Kvitova is currently available at +225 at Bet365 while BetVictor offers +450 for Konta’s triumph.
Player to keep an eye
Even though the last months haven’t been easy for Timea Bacsinszky, the Swiss is always a tough opponent. Known for her incredible defensive skills, this tournament might be a good opportunity for Bacsinszky to win some confidence for the next season. Timea is on the Camellia group together with Carla Suarez Navarro and the wild card, Shuai Zhang. Although Carla is the favorite to win this group, Timea is never an easy match-up for the Spaniard. Having said that, we recommend you to add Bacsinszky to your betting picks for a trading in the semifinals at +1600 at Coral.
