ATP Shanghai semifinals will take place this Saturday. Join us while we analyze the top tennis pick, the best market to invest and the reasons that make this a strong bet.

Rafael Nadal (8) vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (16)
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga managed to survive in a very close contest against Kevin Anderson but this time will have a much tougher contest against Rafal Nadal. Find out our pick for this match.

It was very disappointing the way Anderson lost to Tsonga in quarterfinals. The South-African missed a 6 – 3 lead in first set tie break that could have been the key for his win.

Tsonga has been serving well and despite not playing his best tennis lately, his serve is sometimes enough for him to win matches. This week Tsonga is averaging 0.93 aces per service game (his average this season on Hard Court is 0.83) however the French lost a set in three of his four previous meetings this week.

It was an extremely solid performance from Nadal in quarterfinals against Stan Wawrinka. Despite Stan’s physical problems that didn’t allow him to perform at his best, all the credit for Rafa’s ability to keep a high intensity.

Nadal level is clearly rising and he’s playing much more aggressive, this week he’s hitting 30% of his shots inside the baseline while in Indian Wells he was only hitting 16% on that area.

Some interesting curiosities about this match, this will be Nadal’s third meeting this week against a big server (faced so far Ivo Karlovic and Milos Raonic) while Tsonga will play for the third time in Shanghai against a Spaniard opponent (played against Tommy Robredo and Albert Ramos).

Nadal leads h2h 8 – 3 with 4 – 1 on Hard Court. The only victory from Tsonga on this surface was in 2008 at Australian Open semifinals.

This is a great opportunity for Rafa to reach his 44th masters 1000 career final, the second this year after losing to Andy Murray in Madrid. Nadal is returning extremely well to serve and his crossed forehand should be the key on this match, exploring Tsonga’s erratic backhand.

We’ll add to our tennis picks Nadal’s spread tennis odds as our top tennis pick for ATP Shanghai – Day 7
