Week 7 offers interesting matchups as things heat up north of the border, including Bo Levi Mitchell and Calgary visiting rival Saskatchewan, and the possible debut of Johnny Manziel with his new team.

The Stampeders are off to a perfect 5-0 SU start this season with a 4-1 record ATS. None of their games have been closer than 10 points. Betting the "under" on the total line has been a money maker as well, with their first five contests staying "under" the closing line.

Bo Levi Mitchell has quickly established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the CFL and he is off to another solid start this season. Following Calgary’s 25-8 victory against Montreal last Saturday as a heavy 19.5-point home favorite, he is ranked third in the league in total passing yards with 1,330 and tied for first in passing touchdowns (9) while completing 65.5 percent of his 149 passing attempts. The Stampeders’ defense deserves quite a bit of credit for the fast start as well with a points-allowed average of 9.2.

The Roughriders got off to a rough start at 1-2 both SU and ATS, but a pair of victories against Hamilton (SU and ATS) in a recent home-and-home series has them back above .500. The total has stayed "under" in three of their first five outings. Saskatchewan is 2-1 SU and ATS in its first three home games. The Roughriders are 6.5-point home underdogs for Saturday's game against the Stampeders, and the total for the West Division matchup was set at 47.5 points.

In last week’s 31-20 road win against the Tiger-Cats as heavy 10-point underdogs, the Roughriders did most of their damage on the ground. Brandon Bridge took the majority of the snaps at quarterback with 165 yards passing on 17 completions. Marcus Thigpen led the way in the running game with an 80-yard touchdown run as part of the team’s 218 total rushing yards on 29 attempts.

Head-to-Head Betting Trends

Calgary has won eight of the last nine meetings SU and it has gone 5-1 ATS in the last six. The total has stayed "under" in the last five games between the two.

Free Betting Pick

Calgary has posted double-digit victories in each of its first five games, including road wins against Toronto and Ottawa. I am riding this trend one more week even though the Stampeders are on the road against a bitter division foe.

Other CFL Week 7 Games

Edmonton Eskimos at Montreal Alouettes (OFF)

When: Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Total Line: OFF
Analysis: This game remained "off the board" at press time with the recent arrival of quarterback Johnny Manziel and wide receiver Adarius Bowmen in Montreal in a major effort to boost the league's worst offense. I would still go with Edmonton SU and ATS if the spread is less than 10 points.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

JUST IN: The #AlsMTL have acquired quarterback Johnny Manziel from the #TigerCats (Via @DuaneFordeTSN). #CFL MORE: ;/a> ;/a>
— SportsCentre (@SportsCentre) July 22, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

Toronto Argonauts at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (-10.5)

When: Friday, 8:30 p.m. Total Line: 53
Analysis: Toronto lost the opener 38-20 in this home-and-home series as a 3.5-point home underdog last week. I like the Blue Bombers’ chances for the SU sweep, but I will take the Argos ATS with the 10.5 points.

Ottawa RedBlacks at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (-4)

When: Saturday, 4 p.m. Total Line: 54.5
Analysis: In a battle between the top two teams in the East Division, I see the Tiger-Cats a bit overrated as four-point favorites. I think Ottawa can win this game SU, so I will gladly take the four points on the road.

Week 6 Review

Three of four underdogs covered against the spread last week. My top CFL pick was the "under" 50.5 in the Winnipeg-Toronto game, but I was off base as the teams combined for 58 points.
