The Hamilton Tiger-Cats hope to bounce back from a disappointing season opener as the defending East Division champs. We offer up our top CFL Week 2 picks as the Tigers-Cats host the 1-0 Calgary Stampeders.

Despite losing 30-13 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 1, the Tiger-Cats enter Week 2 as the favorites against the Stampeders. Last season, the Ticats won the only matchup against the Stamps 23-17.

Many of the Hamilton players that suited up for that game are no longer with the team. Those include David Watford, who started that game at quarterback.

The Calgary roster remains mostly intact with running back Ka’Deem Carey, wide receivers Richard Sindani and Kamar Jorden, and QB Bo Levi Mitchell.

Here are our Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats CFL picks for Week 2 (odds via Caesars SportsbookDraftKings Sportsbook, and FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats Odds Analysis

Hamilton is favored differently across the books. DraftKings and Caesars are offering the Tiger-Cats at -115 on the moneyline, while FanDuel and BetMGM are giving -120 and -125 for the win. The Stamps are at plus money to win on FanDuel and BetMGM while DraftKings and Caesars list them at -105. Calgary has drawn 71% of the tickets and 95% of the cash at +1.

The books seem to agree on the total with it set at a flat 45 points at most books. If you want the hook, DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM have a 45.5-point total at -110 on either side. The Over is fetching 84% of the money on 56% of the tickets.

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats ML Pick

Stampeders (+102)

The Stampeders defense forced two interceptions from Montreal Alouettes’ quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. in Week 1. The Stamps now face Dane Evans of the Tiger-Cats. Evans also threw two interceptions in his team’s loss to the Roughriders.

It’s clear that Hamilton misses receiver Brandon Banks. Evans threw for only 222 yards in Week 1 while completing passes to eight different pass catchers. The running game was a non-factor and accounted for only 26 total yards in the game.

The Stampeders will rely heavily on Carey in the ground game as they always do. Carey rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns to open the season. He added 30 yards as a receiver.

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats ATS Pick

Stampeders +1.5 (-110)

Betting on Calgary to win this game outright should also have you taking the points. Last week, Calgary covered this number in a field-goal win over the Als. Hamilton lost its game to the Riders by 17 points.

The fact that the Ticats are at a loss without some of their more powerful offensive weapons from recent years has obviously made it difficult to score points. On the other hand, Calgary does not have that problem and will have no trouble covering this spread.

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats O/U Pick

Under 45 (-110)

Adding together both of the Week 1 totals of these teams would give you 43 points. Calgary scored 30 points against Montreal and Hamilton put up only 13 against Saskatchewan. The Stampeders were forced to keep up with an impressive Alouettes offense that put up 17 points in the second quarter.

This week, the Stamps will not have to keep pace with a powerful offense, and they can afford to manage the clock with their run game. Calgary will also not need to score as many points to win. This and the Ticats inability to score will keep this game under the projected point total.
